What medication is really right for me?

Posted by rjlockhart on July 6, 2007, at 11:31:07

Im thinking of going to Lamictal but i need to know what kind of antidepressant effects it provides.

And Strattera, if i take it with Prozac will it still cause depression because i have heard it causes depression itself. Or Wellbutrin and Prozac? which is better?

I need some help.

The one which works best for you.

Truly, kiddo -- there's no other way to work that out.

As for Strattera, it was actually a halfway decent antidepressant for me. It caused some effects for me that it wouldn't cause for you -- girl things -- and it did up my jitters/anxiety, so you'd need something to address those, too. If I were picking out of thin air for you, I think I'd switch you to a less activating SSRI/SNRI, maybe Cymbalta? And I'd throw in a low dose atypical, like Seroquel or continuing the Zyprexa, and see how that worked out.

But that's just me.

You know what would really help, though? Talking to your doctor. I know you have all the reasons in the world that that won't help -- but if you write down the issues you've discussed here, take it in to his office and just read down the list, maybe he'll hear that you need some more help than you're getting. But if you walk in without a plan, he's unlikely to hear much.

Good luck.

I know but really what antidepressant really is, well there already all of the SSRI i have tried.

Ok, some tell me about Provigil, how does it make you feel, just sustains energy?

But my doctor is going to say Strattera or Wellbutrin. Im not going back on amphetamine-stimulants.

I have heard that Wellbutrin and Prozac "Wellzac" causes panic attacks, which when i was on wellbutirn 4 years ago i did have panic attacks on it.

Prozac is funny to describe, it does increase some of my mood but not alot just to normal, i still have bad times on it.

Actually, that's probably a sign that it's working about optimally. Antidepressants are supposed to bring you back to the normal range of mood -- which includes some bad times.

What led me to discontinue Paxil many years ago was a friend's son's suicide. It was devastating, as you can imagine, and I felt terrible -- but I couldn't access my actual emotions about it. All I could do was drift along, without crying, without really grieving. THAT is not what successful antidepressant treatment is supposed to do. What it's supposed to do is make it possible to cry, to grieve, *without* falling into a black pit.

So, if you're having mostly good days, and you're not falling into the abyss, you're probably on a pretty good treatment.

If you go on wellbutrin agian, try the generic sr, it has little to no panic. Take low dose pills like 100's.

So I shouldn't be on ad's as I can't cry when I'm on them. Love Phillipa
