lunesta rebound?

Posted by asus389 on June 30, 2007, at 11:02:16

Hi,

I'm rather new around here. From time to time I have insomnia where it takes me hours (like 5) to fall asleep. I recently tried taking lunesta on recommendation from my Dr. on an "as needed basis". It helped me fall asleep much quicker. I have taken it for only 2 days in a row, and last night I decided not to take it. I had been taking 1.5mg since I seem to be sensitive to drugs that effect my brain. Anyhow, last night I basically didn't sleep at all. Maybe 2 hours. I read some material on lunesta and it seems like they claim that rebound insomnia is not an issue with this drug. My experience is obviously quite different, and I am surprised to have rebound after only 2 nights. Has anyone else had this experience with Lunesta? How long did the rebound insomnia typically last? Also, now that I didn't take it for a night, should I just stop taking it. Or should I go back on and "wean down". Thanks

I'd also like to add that a few months ago when I took ambien for a few days I had the same effect. Is there any way to do this without having such a dramatic shift? Thanks

I took recently 3mg of lunesta with 20mg of valium and .5 of xanax as per pdoc's orders. I asked the pharmacist how to stop as it seemed like overkill he said to half it first so maybe half first? Although after a few nights wouldn't think that was necessary. I finally just stopped it about l0 days ago. Still sleeping but thyroid is off hypo again may be why. Although they say lunesta is non habit forming it is a pseudobenzo. so addictive in ways. Love Phillipa
