Lyrica and social, generalized anxiety

Posted by saturn on June 28, 2007, at 23:27:51

I know this has been discussed here before, and I've checked out some old posts, but would like to revisit this.

Could anyone please comment on experiences with Lyrica for anxiety--social or generalized? Thanks!

Saturn a friend of mine says in low doses it acts like a benzo and really relaxes her. But I think it is weight inducing. Will check google as it's something I think I would like to try for anxiety too. Love Phillipa

Found this seems promising. Love Phillipa

Pregabalin (Lyrica) is a compound that is chemically and structurally similar to gabapentin, with antiepileptic, analgesic, and anxiolytic properties. Pregabalin has been studied for use in a variety of disorders, including as add-on and monotherapy in refractory partial seizures, diabetic neuropathy, pain syndromes, postherpetic neuralgia, and social anxiety disorders

Thanks Phillipa. It's approved for Generalized Anxiety Disorder in Europe, but not the US. Just wondering what actual real-lfe experiences with it are---so thanks for sharing about your friend. Peace...Saturn.

How much do you take, and do you have any problems with side effects? Thanks.

Thanks so much for sharing. May I ask if you take it with or can compare it to an other anti-anxiety meds (ie. a benzodiazepine)?

And were you previously especially anxious in social situations before starting Lyrica?

Thanks and glad to hear of your success! Good for you.

Hi, saw your post about Lyrica. I took it for social anxiety and it helped tremendously for me. The lowe dose didn't do much for me at all. I started taking it like this. two 100mg capsules every morning and two capsules in the afternoon. The dose that completely knocked out the anxiety completely??? 600mg. I mean totally!! Never saw it again and I felt wonderful....until...yep there's always a but...I couldn't take the weight gain and the tingling fingers and toes but it's better than neurontin or anything else as long as it's the high dose. Good Luck!
