Any Med to treat irritability?

Posted by Mishal on June 19, 2007, at 4:12:37

I don't know if this irritability is due to 40mg of prozac or adding buspar to it. Or it could be because I take Cozaar (losartan) for my blood pressure.

The answer I am seeking is: Is there a med that can ease irritability? I am almost to lose my job because I often jump over my colleagues for silly matters.

Please from your experience or knowledge..

It probably depends in part on what's causing it » Mishal

If your irritability is a symptom related to the bipolar spectrum, then a mood stabilizer should help.

If your irritability is a side effect of the blood pressure medication, there's probably an antidote of some sort, too.

If your irritability is caused by working with idiots -- you're probably on your own...

Could your irritability be related to anxiety? Or increased agitation from the Prozac? It can be pretty activating for some people. Or maybe the Buspar is less than successful for your anxiety?

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. It sounds to me as though figuring out the cause of the irritability is probably the first step. And, based solely on my gut, I'd lean towards ruling out the bipolar spectrum options first -- the irritability could be a sign of a mixed state episode.

Good luck.

Talk to pharmacist on BP med. Talk to your Pdoc and get your mental health records to see if any pattern when taking anti-depressants or ADD meds. I am irritable when manic or depressed even when I am on mood stabilizers. The dose you are on of Prozac put me in the hospital eventually. Try lowering dose of Prozac and see if that helps. Activity just makes irritability worse for me.
