Starting Provigil - What to expect

Posted by becksFLA on June 22, 2007, at 8:48:59

I'm trying this for my ADHD because I am way too sensitive to stimulants. I'm trying it today for my first day (200mg) and I feel something, can't tell if it's good or bad yet. My pdoc said I should wait a week or so to make sure I've gotten useed to it? Has anybody liked this drug? Is it something I really should be taking every day or more as-needed?

Thanks

I took Provigil for a couple of years. It was great for me -- although dosing was something that needed a bit of tweaking over time. What ended up working best for me was 100 mg in the morning, and another 50mg around noon. But it was great for me -- brightened my mood, helped me function (although I needed to sleep for about an hour when it kicked in... I guess I'm a little weird...), was just generally a great choice for me.

Eventually, it lost its benefit for me, but there were some other circumstances involved that I think had a big influence on that. Now I take Concerta instead. If not for the circumstances I'm not mentioning here, I think it could have been a longer term success for me.

In other words -- I think well of this drug.

The only side effects I had from it were during the start up phase -- "headaches," which I'm putting in quotations because they weren't like any other headaches I'd ever had. The first day, I had a migraine, although I also spent a good deal of that day exposed to cleaning products in an unventilated area, so I tend to blame that. The other headaches, though, just felt kinda like a too-tight bathing cap would. Just -- mild squeezing like feel? It wasn't even particularly painful -- more weird. The only other problem was the sleep attacks, but they were certainly acceptable from my point of view!

During the time I was on Provigil, I slept better than I have ever slept in my life! Fell asleep easily, slept through the night, woke easily, and felt rested the next day. It was wonderful, and that's what I miss most about it.

I wish you the best luck with it. I hope it's as good a friend to you as it was to me.

Good luck.

I tried Provigil briefly. It had absolutely no beneficial effects whatsoever. In fact, it seemed to worsen my concentration. I kept forgetting things. I also felt rather depressed. Provigil is also ridiculously expensive. Some people love it though!

Thanks for the responses! (nm)

I love it. I've been taking 200 MG for months with no drop off in effectiveness.
