Abilify causing mania

Posted by ruth0313 on June 20, 2007, at 6:29:15

I have been diagnosed with BP II. I have been on a low dose of Abilify for a week and feel WONDERFUL. My pdoc says that I feel too good. I am very productive and happy. When we tried to increase the dose I was extremely activated, had OCD, and had insomnia. I went back down on the dose and would like to stay at this dose, but my pdoc says that I'm in hypomania and this is not a good for me. I say I feel better than I have in years! Depression, anxiety, and socially phobia is totally gone and I want to remain on this dose (5mg)! Any comments?

It might be too early to decide if you are taking too much until you give it more than a week until your body adjusts to it. Are you taking an AD too? If so, you might need to drop the dose back since you started the abilify.

Abilfy is supposed to be activating so maybe that's why? Love Phillipa

Warning! Abilify builds up a lot in your system, so 5mg now might be 2.5mg later. It does have a tendancy to make you feel real good.

Ruth, too good is too good to be true, what do these docs want us to be miserable? what are you signs of hypomania? That is the true indicator if you are doing things that can escalate and become a problem. Curious what your symptoms of hypomania are, wish I had some. It's a better feeling usually than the alternative.

I just started back on Abilify, 5 and 5 for total of 10, no increase in good feelings yet.

If if ain't broke, don't fix it!! I don't know how many times my pdoc said to try something different when I was doing perfectly fine, only to do worse on whatever she suggested.

Pdocs really can't feel what you are feeling and shouldn't try to act like they do.

When do you take your 5mg of Abilify, morning or bedtime? Do you take any other meds with it?

When you say 5 and 5, are you taking split doses morning and bedtime?
