Geodon, Seroquel, Prozac, Xanax - Anxiety/Insomnia

Posted by CA 2 NJ on April 16, 2007, at 6:22:41

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready for the week ahead. :)

I would really like to know of any personal experiences, side effects, dosages, what time of day you take/took these meds, anything that may be of help as I'm not at all convinced this is the right combo for me.

First off, I will mention My Disorders as this may help explain why I am taking these particular meds. I was first tested and Officially Diagnosed with the following in January 2006:

- Bipolar I, Mixed with Ultra Rapid Cycling
- Borderline Personality Disorder
- Panic Disorder with Mild Agoraphobia
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
- Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
- Antisocial Personality Disorder
- Dependant Personality Disorder
- Histrionic Personality Disorder
- Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (in addition to the OCD - there is a difference)

Here are the Dosages of the Medications I am on:
- Geodon: 80mg (20mg/4x day)
- Seroquel: 50mg (50mg/1x day, at bedtime)
- Prozac: 20 mg (10mg/2x day)
- Xanax XR: 4mg (1mg/4x day)
- Lunesta: 3mg (3mg/1x day, at bedtime)

I have only been seeing this Psychiatrist for 2 weeks now (He's my third.) He added Geodon, Prozac and Xanax XR (switched from regular Xanax) to the Seroquel and Lunesta I was already taking.

I personally think my Psychiatrist upped my Prozac and Geodon too quickly although I started at only 10mg of Prozac and 40mg of Geodon per day. But I was so anxious and not sleeping well and he said the increase should help. Also he then raised my Seroquel to 50mg at Bedtime.

I did try taking Seroquel during the day in like 12.5mg, even 6.25mg doses to help with the anxiety but all it did was make me tired and really didn't help enough with my anxiety. Just made me more agitated and irritable I think because I was so tired and anxious at the same time.

He was going to discontinue the Seroquel but I told him how well it helps with sleep and he said we'd keep it for now. Although I've been up since 11:30 PM last night and have since taken 50 more mg of Seroquel, 50mg of Benadryl and .5mg of Regular Xanax but still don't want to go to sleep! It normally does help but since the raise in dosage of the Geodon and Prozac, I've been all out of whack.

I would really like ANY input ANYONE has on ANY or ALL of the medications I am currently taking. Only the Xanax XR and Lunesta are meds I've been on a while. Geodon, Seroquel and Prozac are new to me.

I would be most appreciative if some of you out there would please find the time to tell me anything they can about my medications. Thanks so much. Take good care! :)

Hugs,

My suggestion, which is working realy well for me right now, is zyprexa! Most likely it can replace a lot of those meds. You might keep the prozac, if its helping.

Things its good for, anxiety, sleep, OCD, BP, panic. I don't know if it will help with personality disorders.

Hi there! Thanks so much for your response! :)

Actually I have tried Zyprexa but it made me so incredibly HUNGRY ALL THE TIME! Even worse than the Seroquel can.

But you are right, it does help with those things. And it's a decent med but for someone who is horizontally challenged like myself, LOL it's not a good choice for me although I wish it were!

Thanks again. I appreciate your input. :) Take care!

UPDATE: Geodon, Seroquel, Prozac, Xanax XR...

UPDATE:

Hi all. I just wanted to let you know that I spoke with my Psychiatrist today and we added Depakote to my Medication Regimine. We also lowered my Prozac and Geodon and upped my Seroquel for sleep. This was done at my request, as I haven't slept more than an hour here and there for the past couple of weeks and am feeling kinda manic.

So here is My Updated Medications/Dosages:

- Depakote ER: 500mg (500mg/1x day, at bedtime)
- Geodon: 40mg (20mg/2x day)
- Seroquel: 100mg (100mg/1x day, at bedtime)
- Prozac: 10 mg (10mg/1x day)
- Xanax XR: 4mg (1mg/4x day)
- Lunesta: 3mg (3mg/1x day, at bedtime)
- Yaz (BCP): 1 Tablet (1 Tablet at bedtime - I forgot to add this before)

So I still would like to know of any personal experiences, side effects, dosages, what time of day you take/took these meds, anything that may be of help as I'm new to this combo and unsure of how some of these meds may "play" together.

I would be most appreciative if some of you out there would please find the time to tell me anything they can about my medications. Thanks so much. Take good care! :)

I didn't tell you the whole story. If you take Abilify with the zyprexa, you will, I garanty, lose weight. Even on the zyprexa. I take 10mg zyprexa with 5mg abilify.

Depakote will make you gain weight like the zyprexa will. I use to take it, with zyprexa and gained. Also very tired.

Geodon, didn't do much but make me angry. Gained weight on it. It did have an anti-depressant effect.

Prozac was not the right med for me, I stoped taking it several times, because I didn't think it was working, I tried all the genarics. I stoped it, and many years later to celexa with great results.

Depakot may have done something, but I didn't think it worked and quit after a year. made me very slow.

Never took the others.

I also take wellbutrin sr for energy. The abilify does this very well, and it lowers my blood sugar, raises my metabolizem, does not make me hungry, but I lost a ton of weight in 4 months, 20 lbs which I gained from the geodon low dose zyprexa mix.

Hi again. :) You know what? You and I sound almost like we're the opposite in some ways. Because I could never take that much Zyprexa without getting so hungry I couldn't stand it! Even only 2.5mg would do that to me.

And I have taken Depakote before, but if I have Prozac or Geodon (one or both of them is killing my appetite, which is a GREAT thing), then I don't think weight gain should be a problem. Also I will be taking the ER version at bedtime, which is supposed to help with side effects, including weight gain and tiredness.

And as for Wellbutrin... Oh my gosh did that make me anxious! That's something I can't take. But then again it's all about finding the right combo. Some meds play well together and some don't. I have been trying to find a good match for a while now.

I know you didn't mention it, but Lamictal makes me so anxious if I take more than 75mg! Even with Depakote or whatever. I seem to have the opposite side effects of what most people have.

Thanks again for responding. I'm very happy you did! :) Take care and I hope everything is going your way!
