Switching from one MAO to another

Posted by malcolm64 on April 11, 2007, at 18:23:26

I've posted several messages over the last couple of days about switching meds. I was on Nardil about a year ago for about two months and had a fantastically positive reaction to it, which unfortunately didn't last.

So in another two weeks, I'm going to try Parnate. Does anyone here have any experience with switching from one MAO to another? B/C the Nardil petered out, does it necessarily mean that the Parnate will provide a similarly short-term boost, only to lose its effectiveness?

I apologize if my posts seem repetitive, but I'm going through some anxiety about giving up my current regimen of drugs (desoxyn, remeron, zoloft, and geodon) which has only been of moderate help to going back to another MAO, which may or may not replicate the wonderful reaction that I experienced with the Nardil. And if it does replicate it, only to experience the disappointment of having it fizzle out just like the Nardil did.

So to recap, has anyone here switched MAO's with long term sucess?

Thanks, this bulletin board has been a huge help and a wealth of experience

My pdoc who is one of the founders of Emsam said there was no washout from Emsam to Nardil or Parnate, but I dont think that is the case going from Parnate to Nardil. I think you are supposed to wait at least one week. Maybe Jedi or GG would know (you can BabbleMail either one of them). You can also ask Dr. Ken on this website, who has been a wonderful resource for me and answers all questions via email.
