Xanax for severe headaches (question)

Posted by rjlockhart on April 7, 2007, at 0:49:13

I am already prescribed Xanax for anxiety and panic attacks which it works ok for, but what im issuing.

I went to my General doctor and he almost dropped when he saw the medicaions i took, i was like um and they are used to treat my conditions unlike you who just sends me to another doctor for every reason.

He gave me maltamex or something like that, im not suppost to take that with Prozac, i was ok, took it and headache went away but i felt very wierd with prozac.

First of all i've heard of barbiturates being used for migranines, you know um ..... what it called..... floicet? its mixed with asprin, and caffine, but i dont want to take that kind of mixture, first of all caffine with butabutal? i dont think so, that would make worse.

but i was wondering if my own medication i took for anxiety would make these headaches go away.

Xanax? or valium?

would it help, i dont know i have one right now, ill take it before i go to sleep.

Honestly, the only time a benzo ever relieved a headache was when it was a stress headache. And I only found that out by accident. I was getting panicky, already had a headache (as far as I knew, unrelated), and it went away after I took some Xanax. But it's not a pain reliever, so I don't think it's going to do what you want it to do. I take good old fashioned ibuprofen or tylenol for headaches. It does just fine.
