pist off :(

Posted by alienatari on April 4, 2007, at 19:40:52

My pdoc totally pisses me off. Everytime I go to see him he just pats me on the head (not literally) and says everything is alright.

I've been depressed for a while now and the medication is not doing anything and he wont believe me. Nor will he listen to me about the halucinations im having. I've gone from 5mg of haloperidol to 1mg of risperdal. Its crazy Im on such a low dose of course it wont work. Maybe I should go back to haloperidol.

I wonder if he will read this post. Do pdocs read our stuff? everytime i see my pdoc I think he has read my posts and is judging me.

:(

I'm sorry you're having these problems. I don't know enough about APs to know what the equivalencies of Haldol and Risperdal are, but it's possible that that's an appropriate dose adjustment. I just don't know.

As for the doctor thing, that really is a rotten situation to be in. I'd offer some advice, but I know that the time you most need to be able to do something about it is the time you're least able to do it. When you're so depressed, it's hard to advocate effectively for yourself. I guess, if I were advising, I might suggest asking the doctor why it is he doesn't seem to be taking your self-report seriously? The trick is to try to do it without antagonizing him -- and if he's like some of the pdocs I've had the misfortune to see, he may be antagonized by any question beyond, "nice weather, huh?" It's possible, though, that the two of you are just missing one another in communication. Maybe he heard, 'Doc, it's not working WELL ENOUGH," rather than, "This just isn't working for me." I know that's been a problem for me in the past.

It's worth either asking him if he's hearing you, or telling him you don't feel as though he is hearing you. I won't say it can't hurt, but at least it has a chance of helping.

One thing to remember, though, about doctors: a lot of them really and truly want you to feel better, and feel helpless when you don't get better RIGHTAWAY. Some of those will react to their own discomfort by trying to reassure you, 'Oh, everything's going to be just fine." They don't realize how patronizing that can sound to the patient, you know? So, he may be doing the wrong thing out of the best possible motives. I hope that's the case for you. And I hope things get bette rsoon.
