MAOI/Blood Pressure Q

Posted by UgottaHaveHope on April 2, 2007, at 12:57:53

This may be a dumb question, but when is the best time to take your blood pressure while on a MAOI? I just wanted to monitor it over several weeks as I increase my MAOI. I just wondering was there a best time of day? Or several times per day? Maybe when first standing up? Or 30 minutes after taking med? Or after I eat? Sitting down? Standing?

I'd take it several times a day. Probably when you get up, or a little while after having the maio, then in the middle of the afternoon, or after your second dose, and then at night.

Also, or course, after you have anything you think might be problematic, or if you feel any symptoms.

At least that's what I did.

I might also have gotten a baseline, by taking it when I got up and a few times during the day, so I had something to take as a norm.

Michael,

Hi, are you still on Emsam or did you start a real MAO?

I take my BP on and off during the day especially during times I feel dizzy which has been fairly often. One thing I have determined now is that the dizziness doesn't always mean my BP is low. My BP has been consistenly running 110-120/60-70 and that is normal for me. There were times it got down as low as 84/40 on the Lamictal and Seroquel and on and off on Emsam. Lately it has been very stable.

I hope you didn't start a "real" MAO without me!

Anything new? I'm still on Emsam 6 and abilify 5 with some positive results. No need to try Nardil yet but it's still top on my "next" list if needed. I'm also curious about a Reboxetine like med, perhaps Strattera or a TCA. Need to do more research first. Do you think about anything other than the MAO's?

M.

SG: I have kept a low profile, but yes I did switch over (for a week now) based on the outstanding experiences and advice I got on this board.

Join me. I will be a week ahead of you and can tell you what to expect!

and I'm 7 days ahead of you. I feel very groggy all morning, but perk up later and seem a bit hyper, sometimes impatient and irritable, but I make decisions very firmly, something I could never do before.
