Lamictal Serendipity

Posted by notfred on March 17, 2007, at 11:37:43

I am on week 5 of Lamictal which I am taking for a seizure disorder. I was not expecting much from Lamictal, mood wise, as I have been in remission for several years but I am finding it has strong AD effects. I smile more often and work is flowing better, I am not getting caught up in the day to day stresses of my job. Plus my Ativan use is down since I started Lamictal, which means I am coping with stress levels better on my own.

Although I take Lamictal 100mg for BPII, I have found the same positive qualities. I wish it did not make me more anxiety prone. My doc said its odd that it did do that to me. I like to call it my primer drug. Good Luck.

I am taking 100 mg of Lamictal. When I first started it as monotherapy I went manic. When my PDOC added Zyprexa it was good. I believe that it helps with my depression. Glad you are having such a positive experience with it!

Presently at 100 mgs, moving slowly toward 300 mgs.
I felt a change within days of starting Lamictal, at 25 mgs.

That's great! Lamictal reduced my anxiety very well when I took it (I discontinued when my hair fell out at 400mg dosage).

How do you take your dose, morning or night or both?

Forgot to ask what dose in addition to what time of day you're taking it?

"Forgot to ask what dose in addition to what time of day you're taking it?"

I am moving toward 300 mgs/day in 50 mgs every 2 week increases taking about 2 months to get to 300. I go to 150 mgs tomorrow, in a divided dose. I took Lamictal as a single dose
at 25, 50 & 100 mgs; I choose to take it after lunch so I could avoid possibe GI upset. Turns out it does not. Now with 2 doses a day I will take it with my morning pills and nighttime pills. It seems like many use a divided dose if at 100mgs/day or more.

Keep in mind I am taking lamictal for seizures, the dose needed is generally higher than what is used for BP or depression. However some people need higher doses.

Reading boards on the internet it seems when it works, it works well, for mood. Some report they feel it at once, at 25 mgs, and others don't feel anything good till higher doses. It is the least likely of the anti-seizure meds to cause you to go stupid, many report it does not dull the mind/thoughts. Some do have trouble with this.

I just got off my phone with my neurologist; the sample starter pack from GSK is in error. You should always use divided doses (2 doses a day) due to 1/2 life issues.

No wonder I was having headaches !!!!!
