Right now, I am on Emsam week 10 and feeling decent. I have had a few days with zero anxiety (which also may be helped by 150mg of Seroquel and 4mg Klonopin), but also days with hours of midrange anxiety.
WOULD YOU BE SATISFIED WITH THIS?
I have a new bottle of Nardil, which is supposed to do wonders for generalized anxiety.
My question is this: Is it unreasonable for me to expect Emsam to take away all the anxiety every day? I am going to stay on Emsam at least another week and continue documenting how I feel, but ...
IF I switch to Nardil, is it unreasonable to have the same expecations of zero anxiety every day? Can you expect that on any med or is it unrealistic? Thanks, Michael

Well I would expect you to have little or no anxiety when taking 4mg Klonopin a day. That's the dose I used to take and I was totally disinhibited. You're also taking 150mg Seroquel which will certainly be playing a part in that too. I would think the EMSAM is probably just acting as an antidepressant as intended and perhaps counteracting some of the sedative side effects of the other two meds. It may destabilize your whole med regimen if you quit it for Nardil. I had a good response with Klonopin, Lamictal and Parnate - maybe you're having similar results but with EMSAM as your stimulating MAOI?
So long as you're doing reasonably well and the side effects are tolerable I'd stick with your current meds.

I would say that once I got to 90 mgs, it took away anxiety very well. I did not need neurontin or klonopin, except for sleep.
I also had to take 4-6 hour naps evey day, found my cognitive abilieis dulled and gained 50 lbs in 4 months. Oh, and going to the bathroom, from either end was something I dreaded. Pain, hesistancy, blood in stool....
But from an anxiety point of view, yeah, I was pretty free of it, and my mood was good. But I am not sure i would say that it was better than the way you are describing yours on your current cocktail.
I think you would have to do a 2 week washout with the emsam, then slowly go up to your perfect nardil dose....and then maybe go down again. And with every adjustment up or down, there were terrible bouts of depression and insomnia.
It was a good drug, though... If I were taller and thinner, I would probably revisit it and see if I could get through the side effects with other meds.

When you gained the weight, were you trying to eat the right foods and exercise? Or did it not matter?
Were you taking any other meds with it? What are you taking now? Michael

No. I just had carb cravings all the time and I was ravenous. I was too, too tired to exercise.

Now I am just trying to manage anxiety with neurontin and klonopin.
Am looking into 'ECT, as I have practically run the gamut with ADs, Antipsychotics and mood stablizers. Some worked for a while, some never worked and some, like nardil, came with side effects which were untennable.

I think blood in stools sounds bad but usually isn't so long as it is bright red (haemerrhoids or anal fissure) and may even be unrelated. I've been a martyr to it for many years (off and on) Fred

I never would have stopped nardil if the above mentioned s/e was the only one. It was just one of several. Sadly, a dash of nardil was not enough.... I had to go so high in dosage....hence, the plethora of side effects, I guess.
