400 mg of Provigil?

Posted by Jerry Falwell on March 9, 2007, at 8:00:59

Hello.

I have suffered from major depression for my entire adult life and I'm now on Cymbalta (60 mg),Trazadone at night, and Provigil 300mg in the morning.

Over the years my psychiatrist has added Ritalin or Adderall to OTHER anti depresant combinations I've been on. The purpose of this was an attempt to "brighten" my mood. The Ritalin and the Adderall had SOME beneficial effect, but not enough for me to stay on either one.

The Provigil, in addition to the anti depressants, works better for me. Last month, my psychiatrist asked me to consider having the Provigil raised to 400mg but I'm a bit concerned that I won't be able to sleep or that it may make me a bit TOO active.

Can anyone comment on this?

Thank you.

I don't know about about 400mgs provigil making you TOO active, but an aquantaince of mine who suffers from narcolepsy has taken perscription Methamphetamine tabs 'Desoxyn' for 45 years. The SR were discontinued in 2000 so he takes the 5mg IR now, and even with a high dose he stil has to add 600mgs provigal to remaine a satisfactory level of wakefullness.

is provigil fast acting? I mean, would you know on day 1 if it was too much (or helping at all) ? Or is it a more gradual thing, so it might take you some time to figure out what effects (if any) the Provigil was having?

I've read studies where they used ritalin and the amphetamines with provigil....maybe that's a better option? Since those are very fast acting drugs, maybe that could provide a predictable boost?

Anyway, if you're concerned about insomnia, you should see if you can get as-needed sleeping pills or something..just in case.

Provigal provides amore 'awake' effect without the jitters of traditional stimulants.

Stimulants in the Meth/Amphetanine category combined with a wake-promoting agent like Provigal is the area of a specialist.

My Aquantaince with sever Narcolepsy took 5, 15mg Desoxyn SR for decades until they were discontiued in 2000, and functioned close to a regular person.

Now he has only inferior Ovation 5ng IR 80mgs+600mgs daily Provigal, for functioning.

You definitely feel the effects of Provigil on the first day. It maybe takes about 30-60 minutes to start working. It's like a stimulant, but not classified as a stimulant, since it's not amphetamine-based.

The good thing about it is that it doesn't interfere with sleep. Maybe on the first day, but after that, no problem at all.

Right now I'm on 400 mg Provigil and 60 mg Ritalin LA. I think the Ritalin LA does nothing.

Really providgil doesn't interfer with sleep? Is there a time frame for the med working? As I found out recently that cytomel acts as a stimulant for 8 hours. Love Phillipa ps but the cytomel causes anxiety according to the pdoc body builders also use it for short periods of time to lose weight.

Cytomel? I don't believe the poster is taking this medication, although I may be wrong. But yes, a medication used to treat hypothyroidism is likely to cause anxiety, which is a symptom of hyperthyroidism.

I don't know how long Provigil is supposed to last. I take mine when I wake up around 5AM and then another at noon, but I'm a fast metboliser. Most people wouldn't be able to function on the doses I take for Ritalin LA, Provigil, or Xanax. They'd either be hyped up, nauseuous, spacey, anxious, muscle clenching, and have insomnia from the stims. Or pass out from the Xanax.

Jelly you're right they weren't talking about cytomel it made me think of the conversation with the pdoc on it today and reminded of providgil or a stimulant. Love Phillipa kind of the same thing works for 8 hours.
