What happens when you have a paradox with benzo?

Posted by rjlockhart on March 3, 2007, at 14:30:42

Have you heard of a paradoxil experience which you actually get more anxious on a benzodiapine or barbiturate.

I heard that it actually inhibits the actual GABA chemical in the head, but i've have only read that about barbiturates, because there so strong depressants.

I had a bad paradoxil experience by drinking grapefruit with xanax, im telling you that was the worst thing ever. It increased its effect but then i felt like i was on something......it did something to it, increased anxiety and agitation.

Thats why dont drink grapefruit juice any benzodiapine.

Warning...

you can also get unexpected rage and violence with BZD treatments, even in people who previously didn't have those kind of problems. From what I've read, the high-potency benzos (xanax, halcion) are more problematic than the others in that regard.

i haven't been able to replicate this, but admit i don't remember how many times i tried again (and what dose.) i may try again soon.

if anxiety is dominating your life, a small-ish benzo dose would probably be energizing, since more of your psychic energy is around to power you through daily life. Kind of how benzos can actually help psychosis, both positive and negative symptoms--they help control psychosis (with a neuroleptic) and lower levels of anxiety that may be contributing to the negative symptoms.
