DBS for depression - Who would?

I'm wondering if anyone on this board would try Deep Brain Stimulation for Depression?

I know of someone right now trying to get into a study and his friend is already accepted. Love Phillipa will see if he'll post but doubt it.

Phillipa,

Really? That's interesting to know.

How is your friend's depression affecting him at the moment?

If nothing else worked.. definitely yes, I would try it. You would have nothing to lose, depression steals your life away. If that was a way to possibly get it back, the risks would be worth it to me.

I think I read that if you were actively suicidal then you wouldn't be included which seems really unfair as I would have thought it would be those people who needed to try something like that the most.

If he is having fantasies about it then I would imagine he could be included, I mean he doesn't have to tell them about it.

When is he hoping to have the operation?

I think the study also excludes anxiety disorder wonder why? As many depressions are agitated? Love Phillipa
