EMSAM

I'm new to the posts.

I appreciate hearing other people's experiences with these meds. Just wondering how people are doing with emsam. I just started today. The withdrawal off wellbutin, lexapro and geodon was really tough and I'm hoping this stuff works for me. It's good to hear that people seem to get some benefit quickly.

Thanks for the encouragement. It's good to know that other people are dealing with this stuff too.

You might want to dig back for some older Emsam threads- there has been SO much said, people might be nearly talked out about it.
Check archives, and you'll find TONS.

Been on emsam 13 days now. I feel some benefit but it's limited. I can get up and out but still feel pretty crappy. Still anhedonic most of the day. I asked MD about lamictal since someone here seemed to do well with the combination but she said I have to give emsam more time.
Just wondering if people have had really good experiences with emsam at week 3 or 4 when it had minimal effect up until then. Want to give it adequate time if that's what it needs but also don't want to waste time, particularly when I'm in such a fragile, severely depressed state, if it's not the drug for me. Perhaps, I need to try a higher dose. Again, it's hard to know since I'm not sure it's hitting the right issues. Maybe I'm just negative about it because I'm depressed. Though it does seem that people who respond well respond fairly quickly.

Any ideas/thoughts appreciated.

Did anyone else lose their ability to taste/enjoy food on this med?

Funny you should mention the loss of taste and smell as I lost mine two and a half years ago and some posters have said it's due to depression. That when the depression lifts it comes back? Love Phillipa

Has yours come back? I've had serious depressions before and have lost appetite but this is different — I literally don't taste food like I used to. It may be the emsam or the going off of wellbutrin, geodon and lexapro which I did in December.

Mine started after going off biaxin LA due to chronic lymes disease and Lasix eye surgery. Went to two taste and smell Centers one at Wake Forrest the other in DC. Both said the neurons in my nose had been destroyed by a virus. Treatment was aminophylline which I didn't take due to riduculousness of it as it's an asthma med. Other than that I have no idea but needless to say no fun in eating anymore. Love Phillipa ps your should be able to taste on your tongue sweet, sour, salty, bitter. As they are what your taste buds taste the rest are related to the nose.
