Whey Protein and Emsam.

Posted by Edwin Ransom on November 30, 2006, at 18:49:07

I am trying to build muscle so I bought some whey protein for making shakes after exercise, but now I am unsure whether I can eat it while taking Emsam 6 mg a day.

The brand is called "ON" and the product is "Natural Whey Gold Standard" and according to the side label 1 scoop contains:
748 mg of Phenylalanine, and 703 mg of Tyrosine.

If anyone has any thoughts, I'd be interested. I'm going to ask my doctor either way.

I have been told that there are no dietary restrictions on the 6 mg patch so you should be fine. You could always check Try emsam.com for more info...Stargazer

Another EMSAM poster. How long have you been on it and what dose and do you have the insomnia? Love Phillipa

StarGazer is right....there's no dietary restrictions at the 6mg dose. Although there are dietary restrictions at 9 and 12mg, they are not as stringent as those for oral MAOIs. Protein supplements are listed in "traditional" MAOI diets (which means pre-EMSAM) as something to avoid. They are not listed, however in the EMSAM dietary restrictions for the 9 and 12mg dose.
Hope this helps. GOod luck.
