Hi Scott,
I just started Lyrica last week. I couldn't really tell you yet from experience. Some of the stuff that I have read about Lyrica here and there on the Web was that at low doses it could cause some sexual dysfunction, but that at higher doses it was prosexual? (600mg and up) I am only at 300mg alternating with my neurontin currently. I hope this medication gives you some relief!!

Hey Scott!
I am taking 300mg total per day 150mg 2x daily.
However, I am experimenting with my dosage and timing.

I wish it didn't have such a short half life. Every 6 hrs is a pain.
It has been a good med for me all in all.

The sedation and goofy feeling really does pass and when I take it before bed I sleep sooo well. I wonder how much of the improvements I have experienced with Lyrica are attributable to simply getting some quality sleep ?

Hows it going with you?
I am looking forward to detecting some perky-ness in your posts soon!

Peace,
Kaye

Hi Scott,
This site had the mechanism of action of Lyrica-http://www.lyricapro.com/cwpb/appmanager/lyrica/lyricaDesktop?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=lyrica_pro_mechanismofaction

And here it is touted as a replacement for Neurontin
http://www.drugdevelopment-technology.com/projects/pregabalin/

Thought the info on the Neurontin comparison might be helpful :-)

Everyone on this has a completely different angle.
Unfortunately it wasn't the Cat-V super-Neurontin replacer I wanted it to be. At a test dose (of course I'm on multiple medications including a reduced dose of Neurontin at the time to prevent seizures from over-GABA) of 50mg (like 1/6 of a target dose), it reduced my approx 20/20 to 20/40. As soon as it was removed, I was back to my normal vision.

Vision and focus impairment is a small but definately known side effect of Lyrica. It's even smaller but I think listed with Neurontin though I don't get much of any side effects from Neurontin.

I understand that the vision disturbance often disipates with continued treatment.

I'm sorry Lyrica didn't work out for you. Are drugs that are potentially beneficial for fibromyalgia on your radar screen?

I'm not suffering from fibromyalgia. I have a rare somatiform disorder which causes things to appear brighter than they should be, contrast off, etc... going on 5 years, things are much better. Fluorescent, metal halide, and certain artificial lighting settings are still annoying to a degree.

I've been through most AEDs except for Lamictal. Trileptal just increased one of the few other odd sensory feelings (thirst/saliva) before reaching any notable dose. Lithium has not been tried and probably would be of little help.

Mostly therapy is focused more on goal orientation, returning to society more, (being that this came to my attention about the night of Nov 17. 2001 while attempting to drive in the mountains to the Leonid showers it is likely to have been triggered by my extreme reaction to 9/11) volunteer work, and eventually hopefully pushing the hyperawareness which is going on out of my head to a more background level by engaging in more activity. At least that is the current and probable theory. The one thing that can said in common about most of the medications I take is that they are sedating, which may contribute a percentage to their efficacy. The two main ones that seem to be the actors on the scene are Seroquel (D2 antagonism, the visual receptors which are even in the eye itself) and benzodiazepines, specifically Valium and Xanax (on a bad day), which demonstrably help "screen out" the information which most everyone could imagine if they actually thought about it. E.g., those new replacement traffic lights that are becoming more common in cities, with bright LEDs, someone could say, yes, that's rather bright, but it would be gone -- for myself, the "psychic pain" and the non-screening out of these items make them more miserable. Palinopsia does occur in the dark, like seeing images of cellphones, bright car consoles, bright TVs briefly for a snap to one direction or another. Haloform auras sometimes develop on objects at night briefly. When this first started, if someone took a flash picture of me, the flash would remain for 15 minutes. And I would be wearing sunglasses in nightclubs.

But I digress anyhow -- visual effects are something that can happen with Lyrica, I forget, around 5 or 10% maybe.

I wish you luck with it if you are still continuing on.

Hi Jay.

Thanks for sharing so much.

I always appreciate when you do.

I am just starting to contemplate "returning to society" despite my condition. I am working with a counselor to help me make this transition. I have not completely committed myself to this yet, but I am entertaining the thought.

Hi Scott,
It is incredible the self-esteem boost, the feeling of being a productive member of society, and the loss of a feeling of isolation that one can get even from a volunteer job-that is what I gained from work yesterday for putting in only a few hours. Go for it!!!!!!!!

And also you might want to consider a job coach to help ease the transition, as well as your counselor.

Crap.

I've been taking 3 times as much of this stuff as I am supposed to. My doctor and I agreed verbally that I should be taking 25mg t.i.d. at an earlier visit. What was dispensed to me was 75mg t.i.d. The script was written that way. My doctor wrote the script in error. I never bother to check the bottle. When we agreed to 75mg t.i.d. at my most recent visit. Insurance wouldn't pay for it. So I figured they wanted me to finish what I had left of what I thought were 25mg. So I've been taking 3 pills t.i.d. I moved up pretty quick too. That's 675mg.

I feel a little dopey. A little intoxicated. That's about it.

I wish I could say that I were feeling batter. I don't.

I have to reduce my dosage now. I'm screwed, though. I won't have enough to make it until my next refill. Insurance won't cover a premature request. I hope this is a fun ride.

3 pills 75mg t.i.d. should be 225mg.. are you taking more than 3 75mg t.i.d. ? Oh.. good grief now I see what is going on... you're taking 225mg t.i.d. or "75mg 3 caps t.i.d."

>
> I feel a little dopey. A little intoxicated. That's about it.

At 675mg from 75mg and 225mg I would say completely intoxicated :( but survivable.

> I wish I could say that I were feeling batter. I don't.

I'm sorry to hear this -- I think the feeling better part is about the dosage now, because any time you spike a dosage in certain medications you can get nausea, all sorts of psychoactive side effects.

> I have to reduce my dosage now. I'm screwed, though. I won't have enough to make it until my next refill. Insurance won't cover a premature request. I hope this is a fun ride.

Insurance -- I dont know about yours, perhaps they aren't as nice (and dont reveal their name online to protect your rights on HIPAA in your answer), usually will pay about a 3-4 day leeway in filling to account for any lost pills, month changes (e.g. averaging for February, etc.).

I would ask your pharmacist to see if they can push your insurance to agree to a shift, if anything on the grounds that it is an AED and one should not withdraw from any AED "cold turkey".

I'm gathering you see your doctor once or twice a month then because if it was once a month you should certainly be able to refill the medication unless you get 90 day refills, and even then I am sure you can convert to 30 day? I'm just posturing here.

I wouldn't have the pharmacist tell them how much you're taking now (675), but you're certainly entitled to a proper dose through a dosage error.

I hope you feel better

Hi Scott,
Thank god for yxibow-I think he's right in that it was an error, made by your doctor, and not by you. And of course that you ARE entitled to the right meds, at the right dose.
I HOPE you don't have to pull teeth with the doctor to get this fixed. A last resort could be having them informally take responsibility for the error and credit your bill for the price you had to pay if insurance didn't cover it.

Hope this helps, feel well,
Tammy

Scott,
So how is it going so far on the Lyrica? Any noticible benefits yet? What dose are you on now?

For me, it's still working beautifully. 300mgs. b.i.d. still, and WOW has it ever changed my life. If this continues to work for me, i could really enjoy the rest of my life! :)

I'm pulling for you Scott, i hope you get the same benefits from Lyrica that i have gotten.

Sort of. Maybe slightly. It is difficult to discern.

> What dose are you on now?

I have the authorization to continue up to 600mg. I will take 450mg for a few days first.

How many days or weeks were you at a high dosage before you felt MUCH better?

Did you continue to improve gradually, or was it all at once?

I know what it is like to hit the right treatment and have the brain start to work normally - like people without the physiologial illness. The whole world opens up before you as a kaleidoscope of joys and possiblities. I am happy for you, my friend.

I hope you will visit here from time to time. I know there is less incentive to do so once you become involved IRL, but do try to keep us updated. Success stories are so infrequent here.

For me, it happened all at once. The first time i took 500 mgs. in one day, after my afternoon dose of 200 mgs.,(i now take 300 b.i.d.) i would say about 45 mins. later i felt a little stimulated, it felt good. My mood was elevated, i felt like doing things..getting out of the house, i felt like talking to people face to face, it was/is very exhilarating. And, now this continues everyday, i am enjoying life for a change!

Hi people --

I'd like to know how's your appetite on Lyrica. Mine has increased since I started it and I've took about 8 pounds since then. I'm not sure since how much time I'm on Lyrica, but my guess is around 1 month.

On a sidenote, since I know Scott is following that thread: Have you tried some street drug Scott ? and if so, when ? (teenager, ...) I'd like to know if you tried Ecstasy and Marijuana in particular.

Eh Monte? Are your reading this? good news, means your not blind yet! ;)
