has anyone had any benefits from Lexapro

Posted by Ts6639 on August 28, 2006, at 17:21:23

Since I don't want to take Effexor, I am trying to come up with a suggestion for my psy. of a medicine that I may be willing to take. I would like to hear the good and the bad and yes I know everyone is different. I'm just trying to make an informed choice...because I am getting to the desperate stage.

I've had excellent results for a year and a half.

Beyond my (and everyone else's) expectations.

I would suggest a low dose as maybe I would have had better results had the starting dose been low. Love Phillipa

I've had good results.

The bad: some people (didn't happen to me, but does happen to some I have heard) get anxious in the beginning, which is ironic, because long-term it is supposed to help with anxiety.

Also, you do get dry mouth. That's minor though.

I found it pretty useless--exactly the same effect as Celexa, as far as I could tell, and not much different than any other SSRI: sleep disturbances, nausea, and many other side-effects.

Everyone reacts in an individual way, but according to a large (3000 patient) meta-analysis I saw, it has the same effects and side-effects as other SSRIs.

I like Lexapro a lot. I have not had a single side effect with it, and it has helped my mood a lot -- although I have heard that insomnia can be a problem with it -- if your doc has you take it in the morning this is less of a problem. Also, take it with food in case it makes you a little nauseous.

Lexapro sent me into mania. I've been having TONS of fun since. Hah.

Obviously, my case is a rare one.
