No, but I read a study saying that prozac 5mg was nearly as effective as prozac 40mg with significantly fewer side effects.

I did for awhile and was convinced it worked. People with panic disorder seem to respond to really low doses of SSRI's...

Cool...May I ask why you stopped the 5 mg? Did it poop-out? Thanks Bassman...Saturn.

The 5 mg worked for a couple months..and then I had to go to 10 mg for the same effect. I'm at 15 mg now, it seems to be working and absolutely no side effects. Oddly, I went to 20 mg (just for he convenience of taking a 20 mg capsule; Lilly doesn't make 10 mg tablets anymore, so I'm told)-and I had ALL sorts of side effects! So I'll stay where I am.

But I had a friend with panic disorder who paced the living room night and day for months, started taking 5 mg Prozac and poof! she was much, much better. She never needed more than 5 mg. Like I said, seems like the panic disorder folks (like myself) seem to benefit from low dosages of Prozac.

UK Ed used to quote a initial study by Lilly where over 50% of the people in the clinical trial responded to 5 mg Prozac, so it seems like it is definately worth a try.

Prozac at such small dosage hasn't the sex side effects normally it has at 20 or more mg/d?

Exactly! No sexual side effect at all up to 15 mg-then at 20 mg desire and orgasms went away. Day and night. Maybe if I'd tried 20 mg longer-but as I said, I was going from 15 to 20 mg for convenience. I'd been sexually uninterested for three years on Paxil and so I didn't want to be asexual again...but 20 mg Prozac plunged me into depression, too. Very odd.

Yeah Lilly discontinued the 10 mg tablet but it's available in generic.

Low dose fluoxetine (Prozac) » saturn

Rather than cutting tablets, it might be easier just to take a 20mg capsule on alternate days or twice weekly. Fluoxetine (and it's active metabolite) have a long half life - which is why this is possible.

Very true. I remember when it first came out and my panic was pretty much under control. I was given 20mg capsules. I took one and wallpapered a foyer that I'd had the paper for three years. Day two I was anxious. Day three absolute panic. I ditched the pills and it took three days to normalize. When I told the pdoc about it he begged me to take it every three days. I didn't and regret it. So I wonder if 5mg would work? Love Phillipa

In my case my pdoc had tried me on a 20mg. capsule and I hit the roof with anxiety as though I had drank 10 pots of coffee!! So she started me on 5mg. and I had no such reaction. Interestingly, when I was on 3mg. xanax (now half that amount), I took 20 mg prozac for a few years with no trouble except the libido problem which is a big issue with me.

I took the 5mg. for about a month with okay results but stopped it the past week, worried about the libido problem coming back. So you think it'll be okay on 5mg.? She gave me a script for Wellbutrin which I have not taken yet. Too worried about increased anxiety! Can you take prozac and wellbutrin together for depression? I heard that it works well for some people. Thanks,
Val

I take 0.75 mg Xanax, 15 mg Prozac, and 150 mg Wellbutrin for panic disorder/depression. No side effects at all. I started on 5 mg Prozac and went up very....very slowly. But 5 mg was very helpful (to my surprise); I just got greedy in terms of feeling better. 300 mg Wellbutrin gave me periods of intense fearfulness several times a day...now I wonder if they were sort of a mini panic periods (?). I don't know if the Wellbutrin is helping me now, but I'm doing the "if it's working, don't mess with it" routine for a few months.

as far as I know prozac is the ssri with the fewest sexual effects and the most activating properties. Prozac is said to be less sedating than citalopram, escitalopram and less effective than Paxil and other ssris in anxiety disorders like panic disorder. It's very likely that I am wrong because there's almost only paper knowledge available. How do the ssris really differ in it's actions, sideeffects? Is there a comparison table available?

warm regards

There are mostly capsules available around the globe. For sensitive individuals with Panic disorder it would probably make sense to split a 20mg capsule into two 10mg parts and take the 10mg dosage every second day. I did not know that people can respond to low dosage of prozac with PD. I always thought fluoxetine is something very activating even triggering anxiety like Wellbutrin.

An interesting thing are the indications. Where I live (you know :-) ) prozac is only indicated for depression whereas citalopram is indicated for everything and escitalopram for Major despression and social phobia. Totally different in the US, prozac is indicated for almost everything whereas citalopram only for depression.

kind regards

Do you take generic since they stopped making the 10mg name brand? Does generic work as well?
