About Clinical Trials

Posted by jessup on August 26, 2006, at 16:46:13

I have been taking this experimental drug called Asenapine in Pfizer's pipeline in a clinical study for about 9 months now and it ends in a year. This is about a year and half when the drug might hit market. Does anyone have experience with drug companies extending drugs past studies to clients who were in there study. I want to be out on this drug till it comes out. If you have experience with them not extending the drugs past the study, please, speak up to. All responses appreciated. Thank you.

I think it differs, but you may be able to obtain the drug until it's approval. That would have been stated upfront though.

you should have a copy of an informed consent document that will tell you about this kind of information. If you tell the study director that you fear that you will destabilize if you go off the drug when the study is discontinued, they will probably try to work with you on that. The worst thing that can happen in these late phases of drug trials is for an adverse event to be reported. If they won't listen to you, tell them that you fear that going off the drug might cause an adverse reaction, I bet they will perk up their ears.

Are you able to tell us what your diagnosis is? Best of luck, and I'm so happy that something is helping you! Wonderful
