Is there such thing as an activating Benzo?

Posted by rjlockhart on August 18, 2006, at 14:54:33

I would have to say Xanax at times is so wierd, i feel more mentally awake sometimes as a paradox effect, but no anxiety...... i feel i can go out and do things....

Xanax does have mild antidepressant properties. I will have to say that. It makes everything seem ok, as the opposite Klonopin sometimes is depressiogeneric sedative.

Anyways thats just a fast put.

Matt

Yes, I think "activating benzo" would be oxymoron. But if I'm wrong, someone do tell!

Yep, in a word, for a lot of people "activating benzo" = oxymoron = Xanax

If you had to pick up your meds at a Reb Lobster instead of a pharmacy, your Xanax would be served with some Jumbo Shrimp.

Activating Benzo? Grandaxin. I have taken it - purchased from Eastern Europe - for me it feels real nice at first, but everytime I tried it I felt too agitated after a couple hours. For me it felt somewhat like pot, honest. Interesting. A U.S. pharmaceutical company is doing clinical trials on a form of it right now. Google it. Richard

Interesting drug. I hope it gets approved. Thanks for the info.

Do you know what effects it has on the autonomic nervous system? I saw some reference to this on the Google search results, but couldn't get the link to work. It seems to be effective for irritable bowel syndrome. My guess is that it decreases sympathetic tone and/or increases parasympathetic tone. I believe that depression produces an imbalance here.

Huh? You find xanax genuinely activating? Or am I too dense to get what you are saying?

These two posts from a thread in 2004 mention it:

Furthermore:

Tofisopam is not approved for sale in the United States or Canada. However, Vela Pharmaceuticals of New Jersey is developing the D- enantiomer (dextofisopam) as a treatment for irritable bowel syndrome.[4]

The website for Vela Pharmaceuticals is unavailable, probably because of the following corporate takeover:

Pharmos Agrees to Acquire Vela Pharmaceuticals Inc.

The Pharmos webiste, http://www.pharmoscorp.com/index.html , indicates that a proxy battle may have delayed the takeover, which may account for the fact that the takeover, which was announced in March, has not been completed.

Thankfully, I haven't had to find Xanax anything.

I've had Babble friends over the years who have taken it, however, and have had it amplify their anxiety instead of reduce it. So if there was a lack of clarity, it was because I was using "activating" in a very uncomplementary manner for Xanax.

But this being Babbleland, YMMV.

All y'all still use that around here, right? (YMMV)

Yes things like cognitive behavioural therapy.

Matt, stop looking for the magic bullet and instead BITE the bullet and do therapy!
