Has anyone gained weight on Paxil? What dosage were you at and how much weight did you gain?

most of it--put the weight on in two months and have lost it by increasing exercise and being more scrupulous about those carbs I love so well--no more fig newtons on demand. I have always exercised quite seriously so I just added another 10-20 minutes on my daily run. Good Luck

I hope to hear from other people as well. I have an eating disorder and weight gain ... scares me more than depression.

completed an eight week residential TX program while intiating remeron. seroquel and lexapro (the first two, especially remeron are notorious for weight gain)--Interestingly she did not gain or lose any weight--her diet was controlled and she could not believe how much she ate--she has Bulimia FYI. Her weight is well with in normal limits. There is substantial controversy (except for the antipsychotics) as to why people do gain weight when starting SSRIs My Best wishes fca

But Phillipa, you took Remeron and it didn't make you sleepy or gain weight. I took Remeron and gained weight in two weeks!

That's great that your daughter received help. Bulimia is very dangerous. I'm glad I can't purge (well sometimes I wish I could).
I gained weight on Remeron. Plus it made me so sedated I couldn't function.
I have been on Paxil before, but only for a short period ... and it was 10 years ago.
I'm just really paranoid.

Maxie that's what happened to me. No sleep with remeron l5mg and chloral hydrate, xanax and valium. And no wt gain on the paxil I took for two years. Love Phillipa

Phillipa ... I care about you ... but are you losing it? I posted that you didn't get sedated or gain weight from Remeron. And now you are telling me the exact same thing.

And now there isn't going to be a second time.

I took Paxil for a bit more than 2 years, and I can tell you that I didn't "eat more and more and more..." If that's what happened to you, I'm sorry. But that's not the only scenario with Paxil.
Maxime, I won't lie to you about it -- I did gain weight on Paxil. It was also very effective for me. I don't remember it increasing my hunger, though. I hope you'll consider maybe giving it a try -- if it boosts you out of the hole you're in right now, it might be worth it. Especially since it may be possible to use it to boost you temporarily, then switch you over to another med for maintenance. The weight gain didn't start for me for a while, so that might help avoid ANY weight gain.

*cries* I'm too broken! And there isn't another med. And what if it does make me hypomanic but then I CRASH? That would be even worse! I haven't decided what to do with the pretty pink pills. For now, they will stay in the bottle.

I agree. I would rather be overweight and stable, than looking like a model and feeling terrible. I always take the meds. Besides, more of me to LOVE

I said that I gained weight. I also said that it might still be worth it for Maxime to give it a try, since she could stop it if she did gain weight, and since it's possible she wouldn't have to take it long enough to start to gain.
I'm very pleased for you that you can take such a view of weight gain. I do hope you're aware that many people cannot -- and that you respect that.

I love you, you are great on here. But please don't assume that each of my posts are a direct response to something you have said. Most of the time when I post, I am writing to the general public on this board. Or that is what I try to do.
Whatever I say, all the time, is just my OPINION, and I have no problem with ppl disagreeing. We are all different, and the meds affect us differently.

Dear Maxime, I have been on both ends of that spectrum, skinny and feeling terrible or overweight and feeling good. I wasn't making a personal comment to you. I don't know you or anyone else on this board. And to everyone, feel free to twist what I say because I don't take anything in here personal.
When I was skinny (from anxiety, dropping 20 lbs. in a week), people told me I looked "better than ever." If they only knew I felt worse than ever.

Hi Maxime,This is disturbing, to say the least. Actually, do you have the skeletal look? Prisoners in Nazi prison were given 400 calories a day, with the result we know.

If i understood it well, you have chosen to stay ill and unwell? The nature of that illness prevents yourself to make clever compromises.
It seems clear to me that you have no choice but hospitalization. What do you think about it?
I'm sorry for the lack of visits at the hospital, they surely need more empathy toward you... You deserve so much better.
For the meds part, i'm not a doctor, but it appears clearly to me that you could benefit greatly from a treatment for Borderline disorder + ECT. Labels aren't important. Treatments are.
Well, what to say, keep us informed. Be strong and DO SOMETHING!
