EMSAM and Adderall together?

Posted by theo on July 30, 2006, at 11:09:39

Can you take EMSAM together or right after stopping Adderall, or do you have to wait for a week or two?

I've taken them together. Only problem if I take more than a little adderall is agitation. It might depend on your physiology, but certainly it's entirely plausible that you wouldn't have to wait, or wait that long.

What does your pdoc say?

Actually, my pdoc won't prescribe it yet, my regular doc did. I've had the Emsam filled for a couple of months now but after being off meds for a few months realize I need to be back on meds.

I was experimenting with Adderall first, now I'm going to try the Emsam finally that I have my nerve up. I only took the Adderall 3 days to get a feel for it (with stims you should know within a few days if it's going to work right?) and now want to try the Emsam, but didn't no if there was a washout period for stims. My regular doc is an internist and I'm sure if I ask him just to cover his but even if it is safe to start immediately, to cover himself he would probably tell me to wait even if it's not necessary.

My Neuropsychiatrist really stresses to me to wait at least 2 days (preferred a week) between stopping my Dex spansules and starting Emsam.
He is a very excellent Dr. and pretty laid back normally so I'm listening to him.

The effects of stims are pretty easy to discern while this my not be the case with Emsam so wouldn't make more sense to start the patch and add in later if necessary???

Peace,
Kaye

I'm going to start the patch by itself, but didn't know if a couple of days off a stim I only took for a few days anyway was enough time in between. I didn't think stims stayed in your system long enough to make a difference after a few days.

Short acting instant release don't but longer acting forms such as the Dex spansules or the Adderall xr might be hanging around more than 24hrs. I guess to be on the safe side he (Dr.) wanted a two day lag.

How is it going so far??\

Well, I tried 1/4 patch EMSAM after one week of stopping Adderall so I don't think it was a factor.

After putting the patch on Friday, I felt flulike (clamy, nausuas, mild headache). Crappy enough to hold off to try and restart do to obligations this weekend with family where I needed to not feel weird. Is this a start upproblem with EMSAM, plan on feeling weird and flulike for a few days, then it gets better?

I'm trying to be positive and think my body may just need to adapt to this med, then it will get better, but I'm so tired of trying meds only to find they don't work, then going through withdrawal. By the way, by just having the patch on for one day which was Friday, I felt pretty good Saturday, but actually had a small withdrawal feeling Sunday, from just one day of EMSAM!!

Hmmm...
This med seems promising. The only thing that I worry about is difficulty in figuring it out-you know-tweaking it the way we do some drugs to find out what dosage, time etc. that works well for an individual due to the delivery mechanism.

Certainly wait till you can afford the aggravation of start up.

I wish you the best!
Kaye
