Muscle Spasms and Mental Illness

Posted by Tracer98 on July 27, 2006, at 15:02:40

I have been on here a few times with not much luck at having any questions answered. I think my timing is bad. My meds have been changed, effexor up, then down now up. Concerta, now no Concerta. My problem (other than anxiety) is musle spasms. I thought the would stop. I can't lie down with out major movement. Is this normal?

Hi.

I don't have any feedback to give you regarding your experience with muscle spasms, but I thought I would just say hello just to make sure that you didn't feel neglected. Hopefully, someone will recognize what you describe and be able to offer you some suggestions.

FWIW

when i was on EFFEXOR it gave me these electrical shock like spasms. like a quick stun gun shock. no pain from it, but would happen at times that where embarrassing.... like when half asleep on the subway.

when i stopped the EFFEXOR the spasms stopped.

Need reference for SS, EPS, NMS and TD

Based on the number of questions about muscle twitching, etc, I think we needs a list of SE's for AD's onthis site for reference specifically Seritonin Sydrome (SS), Tardive Dyskinesia (TD), EPS (extrapyramidal syndrome) and NMS (neuroleptic maligant syndrome).

Many of these side effects can mean your dose is too high, you're on too many meds or you're on on a med that should never be given with another med. These side effect sound like SS to me, see my post at the top of this page, or Google Seritonin Syndrome. Let your doc know.

I suffered major muscle twitches and had every test known to man and God done. Nothing was wrong with me. They started when I started Effexor though. I dropped that med, but they didn't go away immediately.

I have some more, detailed posts on this site, so if you are curious, search them out and see what others have said. You are not alone.

Where is the abnormal movement at? Is there a family history of any movement-related disorders?
