EMSAM - no side effects. No effects at all.

Posted by 4WD on July 7, 2006, at 12:55:25

I thought it was supposed to have some stimulant effects. THen why am I so tired?

And how long before it is supposed to kick in? I have been off Celexa for a little over 3 weeks on on EMSAM for almost 2 weeks.

I am deeply, deeply depressed. Seem to cry most of the day off and on.

Is this Celexa withdrawal? Or EMSAM just not working?

Marsha, sorry you are having a had time...just some thoughts. It could be Celexa withdrawal... and maybe there's a need to up the dose of Emsam or augment it with something. I had some stimulate effects but they wore off. I don't find Emsam to be mood numbing like many SSRI's. In some ways I feel emotions even more, they are there, but I feel more in control and have more energy to deal with with them and what the world is throwing at me. If that makes any sense. I'm also taking Lamictal, Klonipin, and Restoril. Also a bunch of vitamins including fish oil.

warm regards, Jake

Hi.

I am also on Klonopin 5/8 mg in the morning and Neurontin 300mg at night. I have been able to lower my Klonopin dose after coming off the Celexa - I was taking 3/4 mg. I am lowering it very slowly though because I don't want Klonopoin withdrawal to throw a monkey wrench into the EMSAM trial.

I go up to 9mg tomorrow. When I told my my pdoc I was concerned about having to be on the diet (we had never discussed the possibility of my having to up the dose) he said that, well, "theoretically" I'd have to be on the diet at 9mg. Right now I am okay after having taken 2.5mg of Zyprexa a couple of nights ago. That will hold me for afew days.

Oh, I was wrong about side effects. I forgot about the hypotension. I get dizzy when I stand up, especially outside where it's hot. And my normal blood pressure of 110 over 70 has dropped to 95 over 65. I guess I will eat more salt.

Thank you for the input.

Marsha

My doctor told meto get a blood pressure monitor and take a teeny amount of ritalin for the hypotension-he does it a lot=the pharmacies freak- but he never had a problem with this combo. And by little that means 5-20mg ritalin.
