provigil making me happy?

Posted by llrrrpp on July 3, 2006, at 17:31:26

Hi all,
I asked my pdoc for something to help me with excess sleepiness. I was taking 3-4 naps a day, despite excessive caffeine doses. yawning and getting mini cataplectic attacks of muscle weakness.

I have been feeling not so depressed lately, probably due to dose increase from 60-90 mg cymbalta. I also take 25 mg of seroquel (to help me stay asleep, and helps with depressive rumination and nighttime anxiety also). But on the other hand, I didn't feel like doing anything but lounge and nap.

So I took my first dose of provigil 200mg about 5 hours ago. I feel AWESOME! I haven't felt this good since? god knows when! I got a lot of errands done, and I feel more organized. And I just feel happy. I have to say. mild euphoria. Kinda scary, but that's the best explanation. I'm worried I'm going to go hug a stranger (okay, that's not going to happen!) I haven't yawned in over half an hour, or gotten an attack of the yawning-eyes tearing-wobbly rubber legs vertigo since I took it.

I feel like I used to. When I was all healthy, and organized, and exercising regularly and had lots of energy.

Even if this "side effect" goes away, it was worth it for one happy afternoon. It was ALL worth it. 3 months of tinkering with meds, for someone who's never exposed her brain to anything stronger than coffee, alcohol, and the occasional narcotic pain reliever. 3 months of icky reliving of past traumas and confessing my guilt to a complete stranger, of whom I know nothing more personal than his name, degree, and appearance. 3 months of lost work, embarrassing social gaffes, losing and gaining 10 pound (hint- it all came back as blubber -ick). 3 months of often crippling fear that I was going to become "unsafe" and have to be hospitalized. Physical and psychological pain. But for one afternooon of happy. yep. PEOPLE- hang in there! I'm sending a happy afternoon to all of you. It might take a few weeks to kick in, but it's on it's way!

(((((((((((((happy))))))))))))))

you want some too, right? I'll send it your way. just touch the computer screen and repeat after me:

ZZZAAAPPPPPzing!

ciao a tutti,
-ll

p.s. I'm so glad I had the guts to talk to my pdoc about my sleepiness. It's so hard sometimes to ask for help.

lol

Seriously though, it may not pass. Provigil did brighten my moods a LOT for a long time. I'm glad it's doing that for you right now, too. I hope it keeps it up.

Provigil really was my friend, and for longer I think than any other drug I've ever taken. I did well with it for -- wow! About two years! That's a lot longer than anything else has stayed friendly for me. In the end, when it started being less friendly, it was only mood-wise. No adverse effects for me, other than mood effects, and there were so many things going on for me, I can't say for sure it was the Provigil.

I'm very happy for you, that it's helping so much! I hope it keeps up, and best luck to you.

Okay folks here's what NOT to do when pdoc gives you new medicine.

put it in a little paper cup. then get distracted. then prepare your nightly meds, put them in a little paper cup. Then get inspired, and get your morning vitamins into a little paper cup too. Then pick up the nearest little paper cup, swallow contents with a glass of water.

I was looking around for my provigil morning dose, and I only see a bunch of empty cups. I looked in the mornin vitamin cup. nope. That means ...TA DA... I took it last night at bedtime. No WONDER I couldn't sleep worth a DaRN. no wonder I feel so icky sick this morning, like I have a hangover.

haha. live and learn. oh well. I might not take provigil today. I think I've had enough for the time being. Maybe tomorrow am I'll start fresh.

What a friggin' IDIOT.
at least I didn't OD. that would have been unpleasant. word to the wise: look before you swallow.
