Anyone tried Tianeptine?

Posted by blueberry on June 16, 2006, at 6:41:44

Tianeptine experiences?

What are the early side effects?

How does it "feel" compared to ssri's?

Very few side effects, Blueberry, for me. Just a bit of tightness around my head to begin with. Never taken SSRIs.
With tianeptine you will know almost straight away whether it's for you....It's not going to be one of these ridiculous 6 week trials.
It might make you feel weird, in which case you'll stop.
Maybe.

Hey Blueberry

I just started Tianeptine this morning & already I feel some improvement (I think)

Could just be a placebo affect of course!

Feels like I have more motivation & energy, also feel calmer & slightly more social.

Funny because the concensus on babble a few years ago seemed to be that Tianeptine was useless, strange.

Should also mention that I'm on 15mgs of Mirtazapine/Remeron.
They probably synagise to some degree

I never made it to the full dose cause it made me feel beyond weird just at 2/3 the full. I've never heard of anyone having a reaction as bad as mine was though. When I first started it, at 1/3 dose, it felt very nice, not like ssris at all. Unfortunately it wasn't enough. I know some people do really well on it and usually it's well tolerated.

When you say it made you feel weird, could you describe that for me? I understand you had an unusually bad reaction to it, so I was curious exactly how it felt. Thanks!

The drug, trade named Stablon in France, and manufactured by Servier, is quite effective, and (when I used it) had few side effects. I'm bipolar, so I need to be very careful when using ADs to make sure they're not destabilizing; tianeptine was not destabilizing for me.

The cost was the problem. Thirty dollars for a box that will last ten days. Insurance will not pay because drug not available in U.S. Shame; one of the better ADs I've used.

Did absolutely nothing, no side effects, no benefits. Of course, I got it from overseas, for all I know it could have been fake. Cecilia

Well, when I say weird I actually mean nightmarish, cause it literally gave me nightmares as a side effect. It actually altered my consciousness in general similarly to a hallucinogenic like lsd or mushrooms (without hallucinations though), which isn't that hard to believe since these drugs all act on serotonin in some way--the initial effects of prozac bore a similarity to tripping as well, but different than tianeptine. This felt like coming off of lsd, which is usually an interminable and uncomfortably weird experience, wish i could describe it better.

Somehow it also dried out my skin and hair in a weird way and my skin seemed to have a different pallor, amost jaundiced looking--I thought I might be getting liver damage, but my blood tests were fine. I had this general, strange 'cold' sensation too, like ice in my veins in my limbs.

Ugh, yeah it was totally bizarre and, looking back, it kind of makes me shudder cause it was quite scary. The nightmares especially, they were sort of half awake states of fear. This over a total of about 48 hours, after which I cut the dose back down and all the weirdness subsided.

This being said, I'm not saying this to scare anyone and I really wouldn't read this as anything but a one in a million anomaly, more a point of interest than reference. Pretty much all of my drug trials have been an unmitigated disaster in some way, I am just extremely unlucky when it comes to bad side effects. I've never heard of a reaction to tianeptine that sounded anywhere close to mine. It's usually either good or null.

Will try droping the Remeron, maybe this isn't helping!

If I describe tianeptine in a sentence I can say It helps you to feel what you want to feel.If you want to forget some bad possibilities or If you have anxiety disorder It can help .
And It makes you smart maybe some apahetic and cold-blooded. Sometimes It can be too much of its therapatic dose(3*12.5).If so If you try 2*12.5 It can be more effective. I have been usind it for 1.5-2 mounths and I can say It is not a miracle but better than SSRI for me.
