Why does Provigal make me tired?

Posted by frizzaldizzal on June 15, 2006, at 13:37:16

It makes me so tired, but at the same time I am irritable, have problems with anger and have anxiety. What's up with that? The good thing is that I can read word of word and my mind feels relaxed, no racing thoughts.

Provigil has a slowing effect on my mind. This is actually the major source of its therapeutic effect for my severe ADHD, in addition to the fact that it does work OK (not great, but I will take anything I can get) at keeping me awake when I need to be.

I've read other reports of Provigil making people tired. Remember, all psychotropic meds have about a 70% efficacy rate at best- that is its response rate for narcoleptics.

Is there another med you can take to take it's place? Love Phillipa

I was pretty upset when I told my doctor the other day that it made me tired. He has been in practice for 35 years and has never heard of that.

Provigil has only been approved since 1992 in france and since 1998 in the U.S., so his entire 35 years of practice can hardly bear on his experience with the drug. In the pachage insert for Provigil, it states clearly that clinical improvement was attained in only 64-72% of narcoleptics in clinical trials. Perhaps he is unfamiliar with the psychotropics he prescribes?
