My Aunt has been on Pamelor for more than 15 years

Posted by honeybee on June 7, 2006, at 14:03:36

With no ill effects. She's happy as can be, a lovely, garrulous person, who went through a major depression many years ago and, once they figured out which drug would work, has been on Pamelor maintenance since.

This weekend, at our family reunion, I was blubbering and having trouble thinking and she was making the rounds, talking to folks, drinking a few glasses of wine... I'm not on meds. She is.

My jaw dropped. It actually gave me hope (and made me angry at myself for having stopped effexor). She talked to me and told me to just keep trying (she suggested Zoloft because her daughter's taking it), and that my doctor and I will find something, it might just take some time.

Anyway, that's both a happy story and a sad story. It's happy, though, that people can find drugs that work for them, and for a long time. It happens.

Maybe I'll find something soon!

Today, I have to make a decision about going back on Effexor (I'm scared of having tachycardia again) or going onto Cymbalta. The treatment study didn't work out because I have a potential Lyme bite on my arm. Anyway, scary decision. But when your life is falling apart, I suppose it's either trying meds you're scared of or utter chaos and potential disintegration.

Happyhappy.

Did your aunt gain weight on Pamelor? It worked great for my daughter but she went off because of weight gain.

Have you ever tried prozac? Just curious.

I haven't tried prozac. Should I? Why do you recommend?

My aunt has a belly, but she's a tiny woman, so I don't notice that she's any heftier than normal. She eats her three meals a day, exercises, and is a beautiful, brilliant 70-something.

Just get a simple blood test. The Western blot is the only accurate one. Good luck as I have chronic lyme's disease in remission. Love Phillipa ps only the tiny deer tic passes lymes

Phillipa,

How did you know that you had it? Sometimes I worry that the worsening of my depression (incredible brain fog, muscle tics, tingling) is due to something aside from the depression. I mean, I'm clearly not being treated adequately (I'm only on SAM-e at 200 and falling apart), but I'm truly scared.

Thanks, Phillipa. I'm so glad to hear that you're in remission.
