Abilify

Posted by lymom3 on May 29, 2006, at 15:39:45

Any thoughts on this drug? I'm on Emsam and having slight problems with irritability still but biggest trouble is sleeping right now. Pdoc talked about putting me on Abilify also...will this help sleep issues at all?

Abilify exacerbated my insomnia. My Dr. told me that is one of it's side effects. Ask your's these questions and get CLEAR answers.

Obviously we all respond differently, but I was flyin' HIGH on Abilify. No sleep, ever. No need for it. It was one big ginormous manic blur. I almost miss it. Sometimes. Of course, no one else around me misses it, or the drug-addict-like person I became, while taking it. This was a treat, though, after such an extended depressive period, to suddenly be Barbie-on-Crack. It was scary, though, and ultimately exhausting. I'm sure this drug has a better reputation w/ other users. This is merely ONE person's experience.

Been down the Seroquel road. Even cut the smallest dose pill in half and was still so out of it that I had to be driven to work. Obviously I didn't function well at work or anywhere else.

I hate being a pain in the butt to medicate. I feel sorry for everyone around me, I feel sorry for the pdoc and I feel sorry for me...for the crap that all of us here have to go through to get medicated properly. It's not fun but I have to keep in mind that the people I love most call me "dragon lady" and "wicked witch of the north" when I'm not on any meds so that's not really an option either even if I did just want to give up on it.

Grrrrr.......

Hi,
The combo of Neurontin and Risperdal was very sedating to me also. ( ? ). :-)

Seroquel knocked me out and for the rest of the day also. Abilify would not let me sleep and made me climb the walls. It was so bad after not sleeping for more than 3 hours a night and not being able to sit still that I went to the ER. They gave me a muscle relaxer and an Ambien and I still could not sleep! I stopped taking it on my own after that and found a new pdoc. The new pdoc said he would never prescribe Abilify to one of his patients. There were so many better drugs in this class and that this one was one of the worse.
