My cat is on pain killers (buprenorphine)

Posted by rjlockhart on May 19, 2006, at 11:41:25

My cat (kitty) yesterday i thought swallowed or ate a staple or something because he thew up blood, ALOT. I took him to the vet immidatly because i really thought he ate something sharp, a staple because there was staples around the bed because my mom had something going with paperwork.

Right when i got him into the pet taxi he used the bathroom, had to take him out, clean it ROFL

Then drag him out from underthe bed.

Took him to the vet they said his teeth where coming out. I was like what! glad he didnt swallow something. But they pulled his teeth.

Scratched me up holding him down, when they where doing it.

Doc, or vet said he was going on antibiotics and pain medicine.

Had to give him his first shot (IV) of buorenorphine cant spell it, sorry, he is sedated. And antibiotics too, but those you have to put in there mouth, and i swear i have so many scratches on me, its bandaid city

Just hope a cat doesnt get addicted to it. ROFL'

Matt

Oh no! poor kitty.

kitty, I know how you feel. Dental pain is so awful. I know you didn't mean to scratch your human. Sometimes we act violent because we are hurting inside.

i know that you are potty trained, but when you went into the carrier, you reconnected with your inner kitten, who was traumatized by the carrier. you didn't know that your human was taking you to make you feel better

i know that there you don't have the words to tell your human that you are in pain. you were brave, though kitty, and you need to stay brave, because your human is going to give you medicine to make you better. don't resist the medicine. it's good for you.

Get a "pill shooter"-really! It's a long tube that you put in kitty's mouth and pop the pill to the back of the throat; no scratches. I had to give 5 pills a day to my grumpy old street cat we got from the shelter. When we got him he was supposed to be 2 yo and in perfect health-he was 10 yo and required $1000 dental work. Once he wasn't in pain, he became an aggressive rascal-but I love him. I keep all his old teeth in the freezer so if I ever see the woman form the shelter again... The vet said he never pilled a cat without a shooter. Your vet may even give you one. Good luck!

Matt you just open their mouth and kindda shove the pill down there throat. Better yet mix the pill whole with something that is a treat to your cat.Make sure someone holds the cat while you do it. Is this Queen Le Pee Pee? Love Phillipa

Yes i have a pill shooter from Queen Lapeepee, this is just Kitty thats his name. Not Queen, she always up to something...

Kitty is doing fine, he is in a good mood, he's 13 so he is usally in a bad mood. I think the pain medicine made him in a better one. But i have to give it to him every 8 hours. They pulled alot of teeth that where infected. I guess he needs some "silver grills" ROFL

He is watching tv right now, dont want to disturnb him, yes my cat watches TV. 13 years. I grew up with Kitty, im serious i got him when i was 7.

Queen Lapeepee usally is doing something bad. Scatching the couch, using the bathroom in my ROOM. She is devious.

Anyways i think the pain medicince is really making him in a good mood ROFL he needs some Prozac.

Anyways, thanks guys for posting.

Matt
