hi everyone. i need knowledge and experience.
does anyone know how full a capsule of adderall XR is supposed to be? i suspect someone in my household is taking some of the drug out (and ingesting it). just taking a little bit off the top of each capsule hoping i won't notice if they are all more or less uniform, and almost full. he has already admitted reluctantly after much lying to stealing some of my capsules. once he re-filled the capsules with another (harmless) substance. now every capsule is filled to about 1/3 below the rim (in the half of the capsule that is longer and fits into the top part). i *thought* i remembered noticing that they were filled to the rim (that would be a way of measuring it, right? and that is why some capsules are wider than others?) i know my effexor is filled that far. also, they are not exactly the same level. one of them only had about half. the person (family member, natch)who previously was taking them said, oh, the manufacturar doesn't get it exactly the same. any knowledge about this? maybe a pharmacist or one of ya'll who know so much you might as will be docs? :) obvioiusly this is urgent b.c. i ahve to kick the person out of the hosue if i am right! and he is SO good at lying i end up believing hte impossible. thanks.

I did take Adderall and I can't remember. My son had a friend that took some of mine...twice. The third month I got smart. I went to the drug store and found the closest looking capsule that I could find and replaced them to see if they "disappeared". Magically they did. Also amazingly, that kid missed the next day of school...seems he must have taken a few too many of the METAMUCIL capsules that I replaced the Adderall with.
Needless to say, I involved the kids parents and he's never been near my house again. It is NOT a good feeling to wonder if people are messing with your stuff. Go to Walgreens and buy a $15 fire box and lock em up if you have to. I did for a while.
Good luck and I know how you feel right about now.

thank you - it sounds like you do undertand. being lied to and stolen from is quite a violation. and one starts to get obsessive about finding evidence and catching the person. i love the metamucil trick! awesome - maybe i'll try it.

I would suggest you take your meds to a pharmacy and ask them if they look tampered with. If so I wouldn't take ANY of them! No telling what is really in them!
Then get a new rx and a lock box! And kick whoever that is out of the house.

I have adderal xr, a blue capsule, dark blue/lighter blue, with "adderal xr" on the lighter half of the capsule.
Mine are pretty hard to open--I've tried to pull the halves apart and they aren't moving.
I shook them, and they aren't completely full. I can't say how full, seems to be more than half--
Did yours open that easily when you brought them home?

thank you, jost, very much. that's the kind of thing that i think would really help - how much drug do others have in their capsules? - and i will also call the pharmacy if i need to.
my casules open *fairly* easily, but i think i say that b.c. back in my youth i used to split capsules filled with various things for recreational purposes -- so i have experience. that was a long time ago! but no, i can't say it comes off easily. you kind of have to twist and pull at the same time, and be sure you're holding it so the shorter end is at the top. what i think i remember from when i opened it once before is that the bottom half of the capsule is very close to full. (you're right that the two halves together are not full - i think the bottom half is a measuring cup of sorts which is why higher doses have wider capsules. this is good news if you do open the capusle - otherwise it would spill all over the place.) if you're so inclined, try again by twisting and pulling up at the same time (gently), sometimes it takes a little while.

Hi, bissie. I did open the capsule. Mine are filled about as far as yours -- I would have said they were about 5/8ths full, and 3/8ths empty, which is close to your estimate. So maybe in this case, nothing truly is going on..
I've got to agree with the suggestion that you keep any medications that you worry about locked up, particularly since there have been prior incidents. It could pose a temptation--and then also, for you, a disquieting, floating concern.
The substance, by the way, is composed of light-orange granules.

one last question -- what mg are yours? the reason i ask is that when you mentioned the light orange substance, i remember that from a previous dose i was on. lately i have been on 20 and then 25 mg and they are both tiny white balls. hmmmm . .

yes, good advice, but hard to take when the person in question is a spouse. :( my oh my the merry-go-round we have been on. (typically it's alcohol, until i started adderall which it seems he loves.) everyone's advice to go to the pharmacy is excellent - then i will have professional wisdom and not just my emotions (plus the help ya'll's unquestionable wisdom :) seriously. bissie

Hi, bissie66. Mine are 10 mg. In that sense, they aren't identical to yours--but I would take some comfort from the margin of empty space.
