Med reaction caused body swelling

Posted by Lithia on May 13, 2006, at 10:15:59

For the past 3 weeks I have been dealing with mysterious swelling which began with swollen underarms, upper arms, abdomen and breasts. It was accompanied by general malaise and body pain. I was taking 750 mg of divalproate. My pdoc took me off the divalproate a week ago and now I am taking lithium.

The swelling is not going away. It has changed slightly and now includes upper thighs. A swollen patch about 6 " x 4" has appeared on the back of my upper thigh as well. My breasts are no longer swollen.

Yesterday I went to the ER. My pdoc had already done a ton of ton of blood work, nothing seems array. The ER doc added a CPK blood test and otherwise said it must be a weird reaction to divalproate and that "hopefully" it will go away.
he said the swelling under my arms is not the lymph nodes, but more of a fatty tissue swelling. He believes the leg thing is ikely the same.

Has ANYONE had or heard of a bizarro reaction like this? I'm worried now about how long I will be a lumpy, swollen freak.
