HELP - Mental Illness/Meds or Brain/Other Disease

Posted by Ezekial18 on April 18, 2006, at 13:43:50

I have been having weird symptoms -- pressure and throbbing in eyes; eyes feeling tired; nauseau/dizziness/vertigo/motion sickness (diagnosed a few weeks ago as vestibular neuronitis, but the inner ear problem seems to have disappeared which to my knowledge never happens that quickly); heaviness/weakness/tingling in limbs; face feels swollen/tight/pins and needles; itching; twitching; tightening of muscles; severe fatigue; feel like I'm high and can't come down/perceptual weirdness/afraid to drive; symptoms worse on my left side; spontaneous reoccuring worsening pain in my wrist; diarrhea; headaches. Some of these things have been subtle but present for a long time but most of it is acute and began occuring in the last month. I'm bipolar and am taking lithium, lamictal and seroquel. My internist tried to pull the "you're mentally ill and are just imagining it or it is side effects of your meds" bullsh**. I have been doing this for a long time and know my body well and this just doesn't feel psychiatric or psychotropic -- I simply do not feel right. My internist took a bunch of blood and wrote me off for a few weeks. I am waiting to hear back from my neurologist. I am seeing my pdoc later today, who by the way doesn't feel like this is related to anything mental or meds and is furious with my internist. I am seriously freaked out and afraid and just want to know what is wrong with me. Has anyone experienced anything like this or know someone who has? I am desperate for some answers!!! I have had a few med changes in the last few months but am convinced that it has nothing to do with what is going on with my body. I am a 28 year old white female. Please offer your feedback!!! Thanks so much....

I wish I had some answers, because it sounds frightening. I think you're right to continue to pursue it. I hope the blood work turns up something to work with in order to start feeling better.

Take care,

gg

I am seeing my neurologist tonight and am scheduled for an MRI tomorrow. Symptoms keep getting worse. I laid in bed last night and sobbed. Thank God my mental health is pretty much in check right now or I'd be in big trouble. I think any worry/anxiety I am experiencing is healthy and normal and is experienced by "normal" folks.

You're doing the right thing by seeing a neurologist. This is way out of my league, so my advice is keep seeing docs, specialists, etc., until they find out what is wrong. What I can and will do for you is pray for you. Hang in there and may God bless you.
