Klonopin combined with....

Posted by blueberry on April 20, 2006, at 19:04:58

The choices in front of me are...

Clonazepam combined with milnacipran.
Clonazepam combined with duloxetine.
Clonazepam combined with st johns wort.

I've only tried milnacipran 3 different times for one day samples. Each time resulted in significant reduction of ongoing anxiety, introduction of a new start-up anxiety, significant boost of overall comfort with people and activities and cognitive function and lessened depression. In just one day. Side effects were start-up anxiety, headache, and very slight nausea.

Cymbalta I've tried several times at just 1mg to 3mg. Powerful stuff. Immediate good antidepressant. Creates start-up anxiety and vague agitation, lack of appetite, insomnia, headache. The good initital effects are gone in 4 days leaving me with just side effects and the question of whether to raise dose and continue. Higher doses did not produce the same initial good effects.

St Johns Wort. Ahh, the best I ever felt. Remarkable. But it is slow. No first day benefits like the others. It really takes 3 to 5 weeks for the world to come alive and colors sparkle. But the overall "feel alive with zest and all is well" feeling was unmatched by any of dozens of meds I've taken over the years. Start-up side effects are fierce...intense anxiety and insomnia, as well as an initial worsening of depression that requires staying power to get through it.

With clonazepam, I can handle the start-up anxiety and insomnia of any of them. I am tempted to go with sjw. Second choice would be milnacipran. I have some vague unidentified doubts about cymbalta. Mainly because I could only handle miniscule amounts of it before it overwhelmed me.

Anyway, I'm open to any comments. As you can tell, I have firmly discovered over time that noradrenergic and/or dopamine mechanisms are where the best results are for me. Serotonin alone sucks.

Well I certainly agree with the serotonin sucks part. Klonopin made me depressed but we are all different. I'm glad you are finding relief with the klopin the others I can't comment on as I've never tried them before. Love Phillipa

I'd take enough Klonopin to keep the AD's from making me too anxious. I have the same syndrome with AD's-they give me a bolt of energy/confidence for a day or two, and then it's back into depressionland for a few weeks. You don't seem sold on either milnacipran or cymbalta, so I'd go with the SJW and enough Klonopin on board to avoid anxiety, as I said before. And best of luck!!

I have never been able to tolerate SSRI's. I now take 2mg K daily nad 10MG Lex...The lex takes time. I started on 2.5 mg and over 6 months increased to 10 mg. Best combo for me so far. initial 10Mg Lex even with the K caused severe anxiety and cognitive problems. Slow build up was teh only way. Now the Lex actuealy relaxes me as well as keeps the depression away. No side effects. I cant tell I am on meds unless I dont take teh. Over 20 years of taking meds I always had side effects and discmfort.
