confusion with ziprasidone/geodon

Posted by crajaraman on April 6, 2006, at 18:34:28

I had ziprasidone with a grapefruit and it gave me the confusion that I had
with fish oil.

I get the confusion for no reason at all sometimes, a few times a month.
According to a website, ziprasidone's blood levels are increased by
grapefruit.
So, I have stopped eating grapefruit altogether.

It remains a mystery why I have the confusion sometimes..maybe some odd
thing in the food I eat.

For now, I have settled on having ziprasidone with carrots, apples or
pears. That works well..though a bit slow to enter the system, takes me 3-4
hrs to sleep after taking Ziprasidone.

If u can find a solution to get rid of the confusion that would be nice.

I have tried coffee, but with limited success.
supplementation with citalopram may help, but i put on weight with
citalopram.
Earlier I used to be able to sleep off the confusion, but last couple of
times, I could not sleep because my eyes would not shut completely..so, I
have to put up with the very uncomfortable confusion for 8-9 hours at which
point it goes away on its own.

confusion: i focus on something i see and cannot get my eyes off
easily..space/time confusion, things on left appear on right and vice
versa..sometimes have a hard time in understanding what is said, like on
tv..cannot understand or respond to things I see..they are not registered in
my brain and it is very troubling..i want badly to get rid of the confusion,
but sometimes have to tolerate it for 8-9 hrs..
Thanks..

I took that drug for about a month several years ago, and it made me feel lots better, and then it just fizzled out. I remember once taking it and leaving to drive to school - 20 miles - and having to stop midway because I was falling asleep, and/or couldn't concentrate well enough to drive. I rested for 30 or more minutes untill I could get it together enough to continue. I'm sorry I don't know about the food interaction aspect. But those AP drugs turn off parts of your brain so it isn't so suprising to have some wierd effects. It may be with time you'll adjust and not be so affected by it. Or it may be something you'll want to quit soon.
Can you take it at bed time?

I take it at bed time..but I cannot sleep without Geodon's help. So, the confusion starts before I sleep. and sometimes it lasts 8-9 hrs. it is very distressing to have the confusion.
