Effexor and time of day

Posted by queenie on April 4, 2006, at 20:01:11

hey there. been taking effexor xr for 4 days, feeling kinda weird, but willing to give it time. does anyone know if it's better to take it in the morning or at night. i've had a decent headache all day, no nausea or anything else though. i know when i took my prozac at night i had WEIRD dreams, didn't know if this would be the same. Just curious, thanks ahead of time for the help. :)

Effexor XR is supposed to be taken once a day. Regardless, I had to take it twice or even three times a day to avoid headaches. (The originally tablets didn't work for me at all. The XR is far better in my opinion when it comes to headaches.) I have no idea why but I if I didn't schedule a dose around 6 pm, I would have a horrible headache that wouldn't go away. I didn't notice much else but then, again, I never had insomnia and my dreams aren't vivid.

Queenie,

I took it in the morning because it was so energizing for me. I initially took it at bedtime as instructed by my doc, but the insomnia was terrible. And I had wonderful vivid bizarre dreams while on it...quite entertaining actually.

Good luck,
Colleen

I take mine in the evening and haven't had any trouble sleeping or any unusual dreams (except for the first 3 nights of increased dosage which were horrible with insomnia and nightmares).

I've been taking Effexor XR for about 2 1/2 mos. The only remaining side effect is difficulty reaching a climax (ejaculation)...maybe more than you want to know ...sorry.

Also I drank a few beers once (like I'm not supposed to) and had a horrible headache like when I used to have migraines...I have since learned to like N/A beer.
