There are some natural supplements you may be able to take to aid your concentration.

there's an adjustment period after you withdraw from stims. I'd wait out it out before you decide to go back on.

Uh, try "non-stimulant" Strattera..didn't work for me, but it IS FDA approved for ADHD.

Matt,
Were you taking your medication as prescribed by your doctor, or were you taking too much?

I've said this before, although you haven't replied to me in the past. Your mother CANNOT take you off of or put you on medications. You are of age. Even though you are on her insurance, YOU have medical PRIVACY. You can see doctors, and follow doctors' orders, including taking medications ALL BY YOURSELF.

You can even contact the insurance company and ask them to send your claims to a different address.

And in the US, with nearly all group insurance policies, as long as you are a full-time student, you can be covered under your parents' insurance, usually up to age 24. If your parents are paying for your college, and they threaten to stop paying if you started taking medication as prescribed by a physician, you can look into financial aid.

You can also check into your college to see if they have an office of disability services. They may be able to help you with ADHD coaching or counseling to help you compensate.

Perhaps I don't understand how you got into this situation. But please know what your legal rights are. And ask your doctor for help with advocating for yourself if you want to take on managing your own healthcare.

Be well,

gg

What are you going to do? You mean, besides paying close attention to GG's excellent response to your question?

Guess I'd ask why your mother objects to you taking stimulants? Is she afraid that you're abusing them? Has she discussed this with your doctor? What is the problem, if they were helping you?

And what are you going to do? You're first going to think about solutions to your problems, as well as -- preferably before -- freaking out over them. Does that make sense? Instead of freaking out because your mother has said that she won't pay for your college if you take stimulants, how about asking yourself what possible solutions there are for you? I can think of half a dozen off the top of my head, starting with sitting down to discuss this with your mother, to find out what her objections are, and whether there's a compromise. Then I'd look at whether I really did need the stimulants to get through college. Maybe you do, maybe behavior mod therapy would allow you to complete college successfully without medications. And then, I'd look at my options if Mom didn't pay for college.

Cause guess what, Matt? Not everyone's parents do pay for college. I worked two or three jobs, and took all the classes I could at a junior college. It wasn't fun, but that really is an alternative for you, too. You don't have to go live in a dorm room and party on weekends in order to get a college education. Many people don't. It depends on where your priorities are.

Hope something in there helps.
