Whrere are you all? The Ones Who Feel Positive AD'

Posted by Phillipa on February 28, 2006, at 21:13:38

I know that all people do not have negative responses to antidepressants of all classes. My neighbors all take them and they work great. Lets hear some poitive feed back about any of them. I know there are a lot of them or the drug companies would fold. Love Phillipa

The only ADs that ever helped me were MAOIs. I suspect that most people--were they to try MAOIs and then know what the word antidepressant was coined to mean--would agree.

D-amphetamine is also a great antidepressant. So are opioids. Serotonin uptake inhibitors make me worse; most people do not need exclusive, agressive tonic stimulation of the serotonergic system.

I'm not sure the drug companies would fold if AD's didn't work. I think those of us for whom they don't work probably end up paying as much as those for whom they do as we try drug after drug and combination after combination, accumulating dozens of half empty pill bottles in the process. Too bad the drug companies don't offer a money back guarantee... Cecilia

The Lexapro Unicorn - I may have to change my posting name to that (grin) - with 345 doses and 3 weeks to go for the one year anniversary.

Living a good life I didn't think was possible at one time.

My positive and over-all experiences with AD's:

Prozac-Good response for about 2 yrs.

Paxil-very good response for 3 yrs.

Luvox-good response approx. 1 yr.

Remeron-Excellent response for about 5 yrs. My Doc combined it w/ Paxil.

Imipramine-good response in early eighties for approx. 3 yrs.

Parnate-super good response ( by far the best for me) in '97 and now.

Zoloft-some help for about a yr.

Cymbalta-good response doc combined this w/ Remeron.

Aside from Parnate, Remeron and Paxil worked the best for me... and even better when they were combined. Have you tried either of these Jan? How about any maoi's? Hope you are doing well.
Ty

I have been a devoted fan of lithium
from the very beginning. I could do
without the side effects, but I could
not do without the drug.

God bless Dr. Mogens Schou and Dr. Cade - old school :-)

BTW, it may be worth looking at his little
pamphlet for patients and doctors "Lithium
Treatment of Manic-Depressive Illness" - there
is a new edition - check Amazon.com.

The one i have is the 5th, revised - short
and sweet. Doctors who treat patients with
lithium may want to read it too.

I am doing great. I only wish this board existed a decade ago when I was barely able to function. Trial and error and good doctor and friends have provided the stability I have searched for since I was seventeen. I dont know what the cost of operating this board (mainly time) but the sponser desrerves much praise. I am sure The good doctor has learned a thing or two by reading this over the years.
