Xyrem (GHB) is now available in the UK

Posted by ed_uk on February 11, 2006, at 12:16:34

On October 13, 2005, Xyrem was approved as an Orphan medicinal product in all EU countries. It is used for the treatment of cataplexy in adult patients with narcolepsy.

Xyrem oral solution contains 500mg/ml GHB. A graduated 10ml measuring device is provided to administer the correct dose.

Much scientific information on Xyrem is available here......

I never though I'd see the day GHB would be aproved in the UK for medical perposes.

Doubt it will be prescribed much here, but at least its available

Hi Tom :)

Nope, not joking. It's approved as an 'orphan drug' though so it won't be readily available. I guess you already knew that though!!! Initially at least, it will only be prescribed by sleep specialists.

Xyrem was approved as an orphan drug by the European Medicines Agency, not the UK authorities. As a result, it will be available in all EU countries.

Dont be too doubtful, sounds to me,through this drugs who ordeal the UK has seemed to be right behind the US following suit.

First the US made the drug itself ilegal, then UK where it actualy was used extensivly as a prescription drug did the same.

Then the U.S made all of its analougs ilegal, meaning any chemical substance that in any way ENDS up being GHB,.......UK follows suit.

Xyrem is no great invention,GHB was in prescription way before,if your interests suits you,one can google these drugs......

Gamma-oh......A UK based presciption form of GHB that came oraly in small vials, used in hopistals and for depression and alcholol withdrawal.

Alcover......A presciption form of GHB,easier to get then gamma oh,MAINLY used for alcholol withdrawal, this drug was quite popular.Available ages BEFORE we were uh eh lucky enough to be blessed by our great FDA with xyrem.

If anyone believes xyrem was ghbs first prescription venture here is a link to ALCOVER ,this is the ACTUALY INSERT that USED to accompany this drug.

http://www.antiaging-systems.com/apruses/ghbalcover.htm

This was made ilegal when the U.S started its data rape campaign.

Here is a link to one of the most known of the LEGAL ANALOLG products that were available AFTER ghb was banned, this converted to ghb,and was WIDLY used from people in sports,to depression/anxiety/alcholol w/d ..........and yess unfrotunly for us all recreational which is what always gave the law a easy reason to keep us from this useful drug.

This is the link, the product was part of the second ban on all ghb RELATED otc products.

So finaly its quite sensable that the UK presents xyrem........and just as the U.S now permits this dangerous drug to be OFF LABLED as a docters discression for any reason,

Im sure in suitable time the UK will also follow. This is how the big picture makes sense.

Hi Willy

AFAIK, Xyrem is currently a schedule IV drug in the UK, the same schedule as benzos and anabolic steroids. It's also a class C drug here, like cannabis.

I'm gonna look on the computer at work (pharmacy) to see whether our wholesaler stocks it. I think it's highly unlikely, I imagine it has to be obtained directly from the manufacturer or something. I don't think it's as tightly controlled in the UK as it is in the US but I'm sure it will be prescribed much less here!

Hi Willy

I forgot to look. I'll try to remember to look tomorrow. I doubt it will be listed though. I think it will be a special order.

I guess you jumped the queue Willy :)

I don't think you have to get it from a special pharmacy here. There doesn't seem to have been any hysteria regarding its approval.
