Posted by bipolarspectrum on February 5, 2006, at 21:03:12

Hello,
I take lithium and seroquel for bipolar disorder.... The seroquel makes me sleep like crazy... I want to switch to Geodon but theres one problem... when i tried geodon by itself a long time ago it sent me manic... Do you think that with the lithium on board I wouldnt go manic??? Anyone bipolars have experience with geodon??

Hi,
I don't know how much Seroquel you take, but when I got above 600mg in dosage, the sleepiness started to go away (gradually). Maybe you don't need to worry about Geodon.

Sincerely,
Tam

Hello TJO,
Thanx for the reply... I'm at 600 mg of seroquel and this makes me sleep a long time when i take it at night.. so my pdoc says that i should take half in the morning with alertec, which is an alerting drug.. hopefully it works!

Hi BPS,
I think I will mention that to my doctor, thats a good idea. I take 800 mg and while I sleep less than at 700 or 600, still sleep too much.

I may have my meds confused... but I do believe that I tried Geodon twice: I had very different reactions each time. I'm not bipolar... a very moody and anxious depressive (perhaps bipolar 2) ...I'm reluctant to make any suggestions to those who are truly bipolar: my cousin was a very "brittle" bipolar. One day, she stopped her car suddenly on a freeway and a very large truck behind her ran over the car with her in it. You know your history: if you can safely change meds without a manic psychosis or switching into a suicidal frenzy and if lithium has worked well for you for awhile (with various meds,) I'd say a change to Geodon would be a positive change. Personally, I'd rather not feel sedated. I won't tolerate feeling it. (I spend too much time asleep with my depression as it is...) But, as I said, you know if it is worth the risk and if you can take the risk without endangering yourself. In the past (as I look back), I've changed or stopped meds for not good reason over and over.
