Hi, I take propanolol semi regularly for anxiety similar to what you mention...severe muscle tension, rapid heartbeat, sweats. It works pretty good. The dosage is a little finicky to get right. I take the short acting form, you can also get inderal in a slow release form.

Inderal is most effective for a racing heart, chest discomfort and tremor. It does not interact with benzos. Inderal is contra-indicated in asthma.

I have SP and need to take konopin daily to work. I think the problem some people have is they don't take a high enough dose to be effective. Everyone is different. I take 2mgs once a day at night. It seems the dose range to treat SP is between 1 and 4 mgs. The beta blockers do help some people with specific situations, but now that I take a high enough dose of klonopin, I don't get unusally edgy and don't need anything else for SP. Good luck.

how long have you been taking it at this dose? The reason i dont take it daily is that i dont want to build tolerance to it

I have been taking klonopin for 12 years. I used to take 3mgs but have found 2mgs to be the smallest dose to tackle the SP. The anti anxiety benefits have never gone away.

I got off it all the way once, but found that my SP returned (which is typical). I forgot how bad it was and how well klonopin worked. So I started taking it again.

Some people seem to be concerned with withdrawing from it, but you just have to do it slowly. If you have SP I'm not sure how effective only taking it here and there will be.

If that doesn't work, I'd consider taking it daily and slowly going up on the dose until you find the level that works for you. I don't think building tolerance is an issue for very many people. It hasn't been for me.

I wouldn't worry about building tolerance so early in the game. Fondly, Phillipa

QUESTION: Do you have any problems with sexual dysfunction while taking Klonopin? I am considering trying this benzo or Nardil if there is not a problem with sexual dysfunction. I too have SP and GAD; currently taking Effexor 225mg, which definitely effects my libido. I do not know which is worse SP or NO Orgasm. Thanks.

Benzo's like klonopin are not known for sexual side effects. If anything my libido has improved as I'm not nearly as stressed. One of the reasons I tried klonopin instead of Nardil is that Nardil has a strong profile of sexual side effects.

Those two meds seem to bee the gold standard meds if your primary disorter is SP so if a benzo doesn't work, many go to Nardil even with the side effects and food restrictions. I hear in time some of the side effects with Nardil can lesson, but I've never tried it (but would have if klonopin didn't work).

All I can say is that klonopin has worked great for me when nothing else I tried did. Before klonopin I was unemployed as I could not handle being around people. After 12 years of being on it I own a small business with 25 employed. I could have never done that without klonopin.

Good luck!

I don't know man, this wierd pink Purepac clonzy I am getting, it definetly has sexual side-effects, it completly eliminated my sexual desires, and I have like no appetite whatsoever. I was a sexual maniac, and now the very idea of coitus confounds me... has to have something to do with this poor excuse for clonzy I am getting. Weird stuff.

People taking klonopin are typically instructed to start low and slowly increase dose to let the sedative effects diminish (which they typically do in time), but the anti anxiety benefits remain for most people. I'm not sure why a doctor would have anyone take klonopin 3 times a day when it has such a long half life.

I take it once a day per my doctors instruction and now that I'm at a theraputic dose I have 24/7 coverage for my social anxiety. Plus, the sedative part has diminished. Taking it at bedtime probably helps with that. But certainly everyone is different.
