I have recently been taken off Effexor XR and my Dr is considering placing me on Topomax. Does anybody have any experience with these 2 drugs?

Hi, I was on Effexor XR for a year and a half and it really helped with my depression and anxiety. The side effects were pretty yucky. I could not tolerate higher doses as my blood pressure went up whenever we tried it.
It pooped out on me a year ago, and I've been on Cymbalta since then. It's OK but has not had as dramatic effect on the depression as Effexor did.I have been on Topamax, too, as a mood stabilizer. It did not really help at all! but made my migraine headaches disappear. Oh, and my hair. So I'm not taking it any longer. Now I am on Lamictal which seems to be doing a much better job of keeping me on an even keel.
Just remember that these have been just my experiences and that we're all different!!

Oh yes, it came out every time I'd wash it or brush it. It's not an uncommon side effect.

Clear Skies did it grow back. I'm not on topamx but the same thing is happening to me. Thinking it may be stress? Fondly, Phillipa

i have been on topamax for some time now, but for migraines and nerve pain, not for psychriatric reasons. was on effexor er for only a month after paxil pooped-out on me - depression was back full-force. on the topamax i lost weight that i had gained over the course of years from other meds to try to tame the headaches (and kept it off), and like ClearSkies there is "fallout" of the hair. it is also still growing in, so the thinning isn't really noticable (except to me). with the one month on the effexor i instantly gained about 15 pounds...
