ECT first time

Posted by strugglingsteve on January 25, 2006, at 23:28:47

I had my first bilateral ect today and it was not much of a problem. I woke up to a nasty headache but they gave me vicodin and that took care of it. I was not confused or had any memory problems so far. A girl on my floor didnt know where she was or who she was so that scared me for the next treatment on friday. My anxiety is still awful and when I got discharged I came home and took an ativan. Session number 2 on Friday but have to say pleasantly surprised for today at least. I just hope it takes away my depression and anxiety soon. Anybody know if it takes away panic and anxiety?? Input welcomed..steve...

Congratulations, Steve! I've been wondering how you were doing with that. I'm very pleased to hear that while you are going for the full benefit of the bilateral, you didn't suffer and memory or cognitive problems. Very nice. I'm sure Friday will go as well. Don't know about the anxiety/panic question, sorry.

Keep us posted. I'm very pleased for you.

Steve I hate to tell you this but my pdoc said ECT doesn't do a thing for anxiety/panic. Fondly, Phillipa

My doc said if the anxiety disorder is part of the depression then ect will help, at least that is what I am banking on.

Really? That is awesome as my anxiety is definitely a component of depression. Please babblemail me so you can keep me updated. I'd post my E-mail address but don't want any unwanted E-mails. Thanks as the doc that said it doesn't help is under investigation for illegal distribution of drugs and insurance fraud. Fondly, Phillipa

Yeah, my old pdoc kept telling me that anxiety stemmed from untreated depression. Please continue to keep us informed. I'm glad your first treatment went well.
