The social aspect...

Posted by willyee on January 23, 2006, at 9:06:35

Parnate works well on anxiety, and overall depression,i mean not for me as well as it did,but it gets the job done till i decide what im gonna do.

What parnate,or at least i find is it lacks ANY social benifits,i do not feel social,i do not feel the ease or comfort to have general discussions,i still avoid most conversations, personal ones.I also seem to want to stay in and do tasks inside rather than go out.

Does anyone have any idea what this drug could be missing, aumgentation doesent do much, except when i made mistakes and believe im probuably high.

I dont want this,i dont understand what this drug lacks as far as social enhancment.

I see my sleep doc today and well discuss xyrem,he kows im familiar with it,and im hoping using it in very sparingly doses with help, but right now benzos arent helping, nothing is really im loosing lots of friends cause i simply avoid talking to them.

Hey Willyee,

I don't really have a known answer to your question, but what have you all tried augmenting with so far? I've heard Pergolide is sometimes really helpful, and when I started Lamictal (w/Parnate) I got that boost.

The deal about losing friends. Happens here, too. They get tired of trying with someone who won't ever do anything or even just be available to talk. That sucks more than anything and makes us so isolated. I'm sorry you are having this.

Suzie

Yeah thanks for the understanding,im so tired of pushing people away,i dont do it on purpose but i just cant force myself to do things right now,im really hoping this doc will give me xyrem today,i always found using it in small mg incrments helped a lot.

Ive tried everything, the only thing THAT works at TIMES is kava kava and liquid deprenyl.

Is increasing the Parnate an option?

I have the comparison of using Klonopin in monotherapy and now on an AD. While K was a Godsend, I have had better actions regarding the social aspects of my life with the AD than I ever had with a benzo alone. I don't know if I would necessarily label this a prosocial action in terms of med action as much as an increase in comfort, motivation, drive, etc... which makes social interaction better. Maybe that is prosocial...

That's just my findings. Take with a grain of salt as I appear to be an exception to the all rules of other's findings. Despite that, I keep sharing mine anyway....

Not so much now cause the Parnate's kinda working, but I just find people to be so much trouble. Its way more comfortable to stare at the ceiling or TV. Depression colors my whole life, and if they aren't depressive they just want to focus on stuff that's totally irrelevant to me. And you have to try so hard to think of things to say, which is impossible when you really just don't give a sh*t about anything. Excuse that, couldn't think of another word that really fit. So I feel you there.

All that having been said, it isn't that I'm not terribly lonely most of the time...

Does anyone know if Lamictal could give the same kind of social boost with other antidepressants?

I don't know if you've tried or considered trying Parnate with a benzo like klonopin, but klonopin has opened my world up as far as social phobia's go. Also I'm assuming you've tried and didn't like Nardil which from what I read is a frontline med for SP. Good luck.......
