I dont know if i should go back to Ativan

Posted by rjlockhart on January 2, 2006, at 12:46:04

Klonopin is a very helpful medication for sleep, it will dull worries at night at high prescribed doses such as 2mg.

I have taken 4mg of Klonopin before and it really makes me just come down, at night is when it is best.

But in the day it makes me depressed.

Ativan isnt, it works diffrently, it doesnt "mentally" dull you out. Klonopin at .5mg is ok, it doesnt dull you out, but i take 2mg for anxiety and it is just ugh.

i was on 6mg of Lorazepam.
im on 6mg of Klonopin, for severe anxiety.

I dont know really if this is an open question but what do you think?

2mgs at night of klonopin helps my anxiety, but I do notice I too am a bit "dull" during the day. Though a little provigil helps on for some energy it's not ideal.

I too wondered if another benzo work have less dulling side affects. But since social anxiety is my main issue I'm not sure.

Anyway, I'd like to hear from others as well about their use of other benzo's.

I really think it depends on the person and their med combo. Ativan worked great for me for quite a while. While on luvox which intensifies xanax that I took when I was off of it. I now use valium and it's good for sleep but I am taking othing during the day because of the long halflife. I too did not like klonopin for the same reasons as above. Fondly, Phillipa

I like Ativan. I also like Librium, which isn't really used much anymore--if you can deal with minor sedation, 25mgs+ as-needed quells anxiety and smoothes everything out a bit, without inducing depression or very much apathy. Oxazepam apparently helps some people with depression (xanax does, too, but the doses at which it acts as an antidepressant can also cause problems with some people). If you haven't tried it yet, trying a bit of BuSpar plus a benzo might be helpful--they work on 2 different mechanisms, so the overall effect can be pretty pronounced. Since BuSpar doesn't cause sedation or anything, you can boost your antianxiety meds w/o causing undue cognitive impairment (assuming this combo works for you...it very well may not). Good luck!
