hello, i dont know what to do anymore. im pretty depressed and bored. i also have a physical illness that obviousally physically and mentally worsens the depression. ive tried a few ssris and celexa worked amazing at first and then stopped working. the rest never worked the same... i will not try paxil ( weight gain huge) and prozac ( insomnia very bad) so i guess you could say im sensitive to the antidepressants. is there any new ones? ive tried cymbalta.. i was on that for about a month and just didnt really feel all that much better, and everyone i go on causes weight gain.... that is another huge problem. i wish they could come out with one that doesnt cause weight gain. i just dont know what to do anymore. ive been drinking a lot lately bc im miserable and on top of it have started doing other drugs occcasinoally also. and yes ive seen a therapist hasnt really helped.

I don't know of any but they need to come out with something. Started cymbalta today. I too am miserable bored all those things. Drinking and druging won't help but may make things worse. Have you seen your pdoc lately? what didnt you like about the cymbalta? Fondly, Phillipa

Not SSRIs but "weight" friendly: Wellbutrin and Remeron.
Remeron is infamous for causing weight gain, but my former doc saw little or no weight gain because Remeron doesn't increase hunger - but rather delays the feeling of fullness (satiety). He told patients to eat a normal amount of food, then tough it out for about 15 minutes. Generally if they could wait 15 minutes they were no longer hungry. No weight gain.
BTW, the another infamous med for weight gain is Zyprexa, which does cause increased hunger - therefore the above technique doesn't work with it.
