Please Reopen Lyrica Updates for GAD

Posted by inquisitive1 on December 18, 2005, at 10:28:08

There has been very limited feedback regarding the use of Lyrica for GAD. I do thank the few idividuals who have taken the time to post their experiences to date. I wouldn't mind hearing from these individuals once again also. I believe the poster "Lunesta" was the first to report on his experiences. I'm not understanding why you initially gave a thumbs down after two weeks your reasons for not being able to take it. Robert David was also kind enough to share his experiences. Has any one had positive experiences besides Bill LL? Has anyone found Lyrica to be better than the current benzos for GAD? Would one be replacing a habituating substance for another agent?

I've admired your posts Will. I may have sounded accusatory when referring to "Lunesta's posts." I assure you that is not the case. The "Big Guns" in psychiatry have documented Lyrica's use in GAD. I look at the fundoscopic side effects, etc and have to wonder if this drug works or is this is a ploy for Pfizer with Neurontin dropped from their pipeline. C'mon Ed, give it your best shot.

Lyrica-Didn't work for GAD or Social Anxiety!

Hey all

Sorry to butt in here, I hope people don't mind

Theres quite a lot of speculation and interest about Lyrica on this board, so I feel like I ought to post my experience
Unfortunatly its quite negative :(

I jumped through hoops (metaphorical hoops) to get this expensive drug.
It initially helped Social Anxiety and GAD, unfortunatly tollerance built up within days, and it started worsening my anxiety.

Its a strange drug, felt kind of sedating and a bit Stimulating at the same time
It had a diretic affect on me as well, which I found a bit worrying

I have to say that I started on far to high a dose, which is perhapse partly why I had problems.
On the plus side I can't imagine it having withdrawals, it felt nothing like a benzo

Were all different though, "Your Millage May Vary"
Hope others have better luck with it than I did

Personally I'd go for a good old MAOI, the old drugs are often the best, in my opinion

Hi Tom,
I'm glad you did butt in. Your experience may be different from whatever is published, but it still is an invaluable source of information. I thank you for this.

I have tried it twice...Never felt worse in my life during either attempt. NOTHING like a Benzo....back to 2mg of K and 5mg Lex. Read tne entire double blind study. Very encouraging. FDA has not approved it for GAD.., So not covered by insurance. It will probably help some but it was unbearable.

Tried Lyrica, just couldn't tolerate side affects of head ache, lack of concentration, just felt out of it at 150mgs. I was never able to get to a theraputic range of 450mgs or so (and I gave it a good shot). Social Anxiety returned, dropped the Lyrica now back on 2mgs of Klonopin. Like night and day for me, perhaps it will work better for others.

Thank you all for your feedback. It means a lot to me. The double blind study appeared so neat and clean. Without your feedback, I may have asked to try it.
